"We had a lovely stay at the Shire! Our double room was perfect for our family of 4, and room had a gorgeous view over the river. Loved having a morning coffee outside the room looking out over the snow covered river. Looking forward to coming back soon!"

"Can’t say enough good things about our stay at the Shire! We were fortunate enough to spend a few nights in the Riverhouse (adjacent to the main hotel / apartment style set up) and had a lovely experience. The rooms were clean, we had a great view of the River, and a fireplace in our bedroom! The hotel is undergoing some renovations (which, as far as I can tell, look great), but we weren’t interrupted by the work in any capacity. The rooms were quiet throughout the night! The staff very pleasant and the location is perfect - quick walk to the pretty downtown. Definitely recommend a stay here!"

"We are back from yet ANOTHER WONDERFUL stay at The Shire in Woodstock, VT. The rooms are large, beautiful, exceptionally clean, full of natural light and have stunning river views. Friendliest staff you could hope for. Our girls especially loved the treats waiting for us when we arrived. There are lovely little shops just down the street, a grocery store directly across the street and multiple restaurants to choose from within driving distance. Great sledding hills and nearby skiing/snowboarding. Can’t wait to return next year!"

"Let me begin with nice location and room. From here it goes downhill. I booked 2 rooms for Nov 1-3. There was no mention of renovations going on at the hotel. Loud construction noises going on over the room with the baby until 10 at night. There is NO cleaning services available. NO front desk person after 8 pm. They gave you a contact # to call only if it was an Emergency. What really set me off was someone used there key and walked into my room without knocking, backed out of the room when they saw me saying sorry. They never contacted me so I went to the front office. After ringing a buzzer someone said they would be there shortly. I told the lady what happened and she stated it was the manager. I wanted to speak to him but he was not available. When I checked out another lady at the front desk said she would have the manager call me and give me a free night for my room. It is 11/5/2023 and still have not received a phone call. They sent a receipt via email saying my room was $0 but credit card is still charged the full amount. VERY poor management. I will update this review if I hear from them or get credited."

"If I could give them a zero, I would. I’m very disappointed with our experience at The Shire. We paid over double their posted rate of $225 for a King premium view room -a title that implies there’s a view- during high season only to be put in a room with front and back views of parking lots. We couldn’t open our blinds because people or cars were moving by the windows throughout the day and night. Moreover, there was a jacuzzi tub and bathroom sink in the main part of our room (bizarre and unusable) and the shower in the proper bathroom area leaked water onto the floor because a make shift curtain was placed where a door to the shower used to exist. In addition, the shower was so small there was no room to turn around. I approached the on site staff about my concerns and they said management would reach out to me-which never happened. I tried via email, text and in person to share my concerns yet no one contacted me. The on site personnel seemed poorly trained and shared that “a premium view king room means you get a view of a parking lot”. When I asked what a standard king view room looked out onto, she did not respond. My husband and I were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary and looked forward to gazing out onto a “tranquil view” as was advertised on the website for our room. They came highly recommended from friends/owners of another business in Woodstock. Very very disappointed that they don’t care about customer concerns. They seem to be a business machine with no owners at the helm directing quality stays for customers."
