"I brought my newly purchased, albeit used car here for an inspection earlier this week. The car just had extensive brake servicing, new tires, etc. so I did not expect it to have any issues passing. I do appreciate that they squeezed me in on short notice and replaced a rear license plate bulb that was out, however, they failed the car for inspection due to the check engine light being on, an issue that had not been present upon my arriving at the shop nor in my driving it prior. The code was for a "Neutral Input Switch" which they told me would cost $165 for the part and $300 for the work with labor. I found the same part through the Subaru dealership, brand new, for only $90 and was told that the code could be prompted by a loosened connection with that sensor and that I should first try re-connecting it. I did this, had the code cleared and drove the car 200 miles without it coming back on, after which I brought it to the Meriden Garage for inspection instead, not trusting the advice or practices of East Plainfield Automotive. It passed inspection (no surprises there) and when I went to settle up for the light bulb at East Plainfield they charged me for the inspection simply because I did not bring it back there to have it re-inspected. I am a young female with fairly little knowledge of auto repairs and I am therefore hesitant to trust many mechanics. These guys certainly lost my trust and my respect with the way they did business. Admitting their error in not suggesting the simple fix and waiving the fee of the inspection would have been a far better business practice, especially in a small town. I would recommend avoiding this place if, like myself, you worry about being taken advantage of in the auto repair industry."
"I called up last minute looking to get the ac fixed in my Mini Cooper before going on vacation. They got the part quickly and fit me in to get it done before I left. Thank you!"
"Mike was very professional attentive and always very thorough."
"Brought my truck in for inspection; they found rear leaf springs needed replacement. Courteous, helpful and responsive. Set appointment to get work done. Was given estimate of $1000. When I went in to pick up the truck, the cost was $1,294.40. Mike said it needed more work than he originally thought. When I compared the price of the parts to the exact same parts from the exact same supplier, he had charged me 300% of the price I could get from that supplier. I called Mike to ask him if their normal upcharge was that much, and he said it was. While it is possible Mike's price for the parts was higher than the one I found, I would expect a local mechanic to check prices before ordering parts; that's part of the value they should deliver to customers. The work appears to have been performed well, and the truck is fine. That said, a 300% upcharge is far too much. I'm a big supporter of local business, but this up charge is not appropriate."
"Got tires mounted. Good price, no hassle."
