"While hiking, be careful of unleashed dogs running right up to you while you’re not looking… and then barking. Scary. Sadly, you can pretty much count on encountering some type of problem with unleashed dogs while hiking most trails these days in Maine, or anywhere else in New England for that matter. It might be prudent to carry a handgun to protect yourself from an aggressive dog; maybe even against the irresponsible dog owner as well."
"Brought my kids here for the Easter egg hunt and it was a huge hit. My 3 year old had a blast! Beautiful forest trail, too. I highly recommend it!"
"If you have time in the next few weeks, find your way to this quiet spot on the west side of Route 123 in Harpswell. The young forest offers fresh air and easy walking, but for me, the highlight is the large vernal pool on the north end of the walk. Early or late in the day the pool comes alive with the sounds of spring with many birds stopping to drink, and local amphibians looking for love. There will be lots of frogs around but if you time things right you might see the salamanders when they march to the water for their mating rituals. The sound of spring peepers will provide all the music you need so leave the ear buds in the car!"
"Woods walk over very uneven terrain for the most part single person trails. Total trail length is 1 mile when you do both. No views of the ocean. There is a road that separates the trails so you can do one or the other or both. Do wear insect repellent for the mosquitoes are very persistent everywhere. Going to the vernal pond is fun and it is quite large. Walking along stop to check the many varieties of mosses and lichens. Oh my! Today beside the star flowers, bluets, dandelions, and bunch berries in bloom so were lady slippers. Remember pictures not picking. Dogs are allowed if on leash. Wet ground so I suggest sturdy shoes with a good bottom or hikers."
"These trails are delightful. They wend and wind through mossy forest and even have a verbal pond. It's interesting with small hills and not too challenging."
