"I hold a Master Plumbing and Heating license in Maine but live in Florida. I needed them to go to a property I own. Their tech stated three or four items that were totally incorrect and not needed. Doug the service manager was throwing out F bombs when I brought it to his attention. Run away from these people."

"My old oil furnace died and Winthrop Fuel started helping me out quickly. They replaced the old furnace with a new propane one which works great. The furnace techs were courteous, informative and efficient. Work was completed in the time that Winthrop Fuel estimated. Highly recommended."

"I really don't understand where the negative reviews come from because that has not been our recent experience. Winthrop Fuel had to replace our hot water and heating system after a catastrophic failure of the hot water container. This occurred due to poor maintenance by our previous propane supplier who installed two heating systems for in the 25 years that we were serviced by them. Though a big company, they never seemed to be able to keep their employees, so it was always a new face, and frequently they inexperienced. Many of their repairs had to redone. Additionally, we found that their prices on installs, repairs, service calls, and propane also always seemed high. Contrasting those experiences with our recent experience with Winthrop Fuel, from getting a fair and honest quote on our new system from Doug, to the the 3 person team led by Stephen, far exceeded our expectations in the time it took to install, and the quality of the equipment used. The plumbing, which was a nightmare because it had to fit under a staircase and was completely out-of-code from the previous patchwork installs, is now literally industrial sculpture. I have rarely been this satisfied. So again, I really do not see where the negative reviews have come from. Everyone from the office staff to the technicians have been top notch. Stop me in town and I'll show you the pictures of the before and the industrial sculpture after, and l'll gladly tell what I was charged, then you can decide. Then I think you'll understand why I am very happy. UPDATE: We are 2 years out and have had 2 annual services done, and everything from scheduling to arrival times and hiccups with the Honeywell thermostat (Honeywell’s problem, not Winthrop Fuels) have been handled professionally, quickly, and at a fair price. Even the cost of financing of the system was done with aplomb"

"I'm pretty ticked off about the poor reviews on this website. These people complaining are clearly those for whom "extra grace is required." I have dealt with a lot of bad owners and companies in my day here in Maine and elsewhere, and Winthrop Fuel and Doug (a family owned company) is NOT one of them. They have always given us a very fair price on propane, since we use a lot, and when I called today because we were getting low on propane, even though they had us scheduled for delivery next week, they came out within hours of our call and filled the tank. I'm in the health care industry, and the disrespectful, entitled and unappreciative attitude of some Mainers is the reason that we can't keep good doctors and business owners in Maine, along with the liberal policies of our state politicians! Anyway, thank you Doug and Winthrop Fuel!"
