"We bring our students to the Downeast Institute at least twice a year. The Institute team is always fun to learn from and with. This place always leaves an enormous impression on our budding scientists, lobster fishermen, and local kids. The facility is clean and safe and welcoming as is every member of the Institute Team. We will try to get back to visit this school year even though there are health restrictions."
"I cannot speak highly enough of DEI! If it wasn't for DEI, my students would never be learning about marine ecosystems and specifically, what's happening with mya arenaria (soft-shell clams). After attending a week-long teacher training where I learned techniques for gathering scientific data, Dr. Beal helped me set up a clam recruitment project. This is now the second year of students spending a day at the research site, collecting and analyzing data, before presenting their findings to local clammers and other shellfish constituents. Dr. Beal, Sara Randall and Colleen Haskell have been instrumental in helping to bring marine science to my school!!"
"As principal of our local elementary school, DEI has had a profound affect on our students. The education program at Downeast Institute provides top-rate marine science labs, as well as many STEAM related activities. Our school has had the opportunity to be involved with DEI the past several years, and our students look forward to their time there."
"Downeast Institute is a great place doing great work for the community and the state. The research done here will ensure a healthy fishery environment and sustainable food supplies for the future. Their focus on education for kids creates interest in kids to learn about the ocean around them. Every one here is so friendly and knowledgeable that is it fun to talk and learn from them"
"I have visited DEI a number of times! The staff is friendly and seems to really enjoy their work. It was awesome to learn about the golden mussels they are growing. The touch tanks is also a fun stop!"
