Reviews of Aloft Portland Downtown Waterfront ME
"Aloft Portland Downtown Waterfront ME wasn't just a hotel, it was a gateway to a memorable Portland exploration, thanks to its incredible staff. Chris, the Sunday-Thursday bartender, is a mixology magician! He not only nailed our drink choices, but he also introduced us to delicious delights like "Duck Farts" (trust me, it's delicious!). Beyond that, when we craved some local food secrets, he didn't hesitate to send an 8-page email bursting with his personal recommendations and insider tips! Honestly, he made our stay. But the awesomeness didn't stop there. The reception staff was sweetness personified, patiently answering our every question, from the hotel's hidden gem (free, unlimited parking across the street!) to where we could find plasticware to eat delicious leftovers. The hotel itself matched the staff's energy: trendy rooms, a well-equipped gym with hydration stations (plus you get your own water!), luxurious toiletries, and even a mom-approved steamer! The only thing missing was a microwave, but who needs that when you have Chris' food bible in your pocket? In short, Aloft Portland isn't just a place to sleep, it's a launchpad for an unforgettable Portland adventure, fueled by amazing drinks, local knowledge, and genuine hospitality. We can't wait to return (and order another Duck Fart)! P.S. Chris, you rock!"
"While I've heard of this brand before, I never had the chance to stay here before. The rooms are simple and modern. Area rug in place of full carpeting with tile floors throughout. The bathroom is pretty much open concept (with sliding door to the toilet), the TV is wall mounted and the furnishing are sparse, but reasonable for a short stay. The bed was comfortable and there is a small table with seating for eating or getting some work done. They offer breakfast and snacks in their lobby pantry and coffee (gratis). They also have a nice lobby bar which opens at 5PM and sitting area to relax, read a book, etc. Don't let them talk you into paying $35 for valet parking. There is plenty of local parking on the street which is free until 9AM and then $5 for 2 hours after that. This location is within walking distance of downtown and the old pier although a bit far, not bad in nice weather."
"We stayed here while visiting family. Very personal feeling attentive service and the room price was fair (it is January). Garage parking is $36 a day. You can park on the street for much less— unless lots of snow is expected, in which case you’d be towed from street. The little bar is quiet, comfortable and service very friendly. Definitely would stay here again."
"Beautiful view in a prime location. I would say it's worth the extra cost for a Harbour view room. It's truly lovely. That being said, the walls are a bit thin and I could hear all movements above us and the hallway outside. It's not for a light sleeper. The bar/hotel staff are great thought."
"Aloft Portland Downtown Waterfront: Exclusive Policies and Disregard for Long-term Locals My recent encounter at the Aloft Portland Downtown Waterfront hotel on 379 Commercial Street in Portland, Maine, highlighted the establishment's exclusive policies and disdain for local residents. As a citizen of Portland for fifty-four years, I expected access to basic amenities within my own community, only to face a disturbing ordeal while attempting to use the hotel's ATM. After utilizing the ATM and briefly stepping outside to speak with a colleague in my vehicle, I returned to the machine only to be abruptly accosted by a security officer. Instead of acknowledging my legitimate use of the ATM moments earlier, I found myself accused of trespassing, treated like a criminal rather than a customer exercising a basic service. This unwarranted accusation of trespassing, coupled with the refusal to allow me to use the ATM again, was not only insulting but utterly unacceptable. Being interrogated and treated as a trespasser after legitimately using the ATM left me feeling disrespected and unwelcome in my own city. It's astonishing that an establishment situated in a city renowned for its working waterfront would adopt such elitist and exclusionary behavior, denying locals access to fundamental services. This elitism displayed within this establishment contradicts the ethos of a community-oriented city like Portland. This appalling treatment underscores the establishment's lack of respect and inclusion for long-term members of the Portland community. Such discriminatory practices not only tarnish the hotel's reputation but also raise significant concerns about the values it upholds. This experience epitomizes the need for businesses to prioritize equitable treatment and foster positive relationships with their local community. I hope this incident serves as a wake-up call for the hotel to reassess its policies and strive to create an environment that respects and includes all members of the Portland community."
