Reviews of Fireside Inn & Suites Portland
"We like the jacuzzi suit. Tub is in a separate room from the bed area has 2 flat screens 1 in bed room 1 in jacuzzi room with "fire place" and massage chair. Has a small refrigerator In the bedroom. Usb plugs on lamps on both sides of the bed to charge phones. not many outlets. 1 table for laptop or for 1 person to eat. Ac and heat worked fine. Around $350 for a night. Plus $125 deposit for incidentals. Recommend you bring your own pillows. If you like any fluff in them. Also has a pool kinda heated prob around 70°f, public sauna, small gym, and a public hottub down next to "gym""
"There were some good surprises and a couple of unfortunate ones during our stay of several days. Plusses: - Conveniently located as we were traveling to different areas and it was easy to get to different parts of Maine from there. - Loved having the gas fireplace!! I wasn't expecting there to actually BE a fireplace, I figured it was just a cozy sounding name so I was really excited when we walked in the room and saw it! - The room was spacious, larger than every other place we stayed on our trip. - Our room looked out on the courtyard with beautiful Hydrangeas in bloom. - The staff were very friendly and seemed happy to help. Minuses: - The sheets had a couple of permanent (I assume) stains on them which caused me to question the cleanliness of the laundry service. - My traveling companion said that 2 of his 3 pillows smelled bad to the point that he set them aside in a corner (he rarely complains about smells, so I'm assuming this really bothered him if he mentioned it). This made him also question the cleanliness of the linens. - The final issue is unfortunately not something that much can be done about, but there is a problem with soundproofing. The first night we were there, we were awakened by the man in the room next to us yelling and swearing in anger. We couldn't tell if he was on his phone (as we only heard his voice) or had someone else in the room with him. Anyway, we were both concerned that something violent might happen so we stayed awake until he was quiet. That lasted about an hour, so by the time it stopped, we were too awake to go back to sleep. We did not call management to complain because frankly, we didn't want him to turn his anger on us. - Another night, there was a lot of noise in the hallway with loud banging of doors both late at night (again, around 2:00am) and early in the morning (6:00am ish) so out of a three night stay, we didn't get a good night's sleep during two of them. Overall, I might stay there again but my traveling companion said it wouldn't be his first choice. I felt it was good value for the money, but the noise issue was a pretty big factor."
"The bathrooms are made for the very short people. Stayed 2 nights, 1st night was great; quiet, perfect temp in the room, etc. 2nd night was horrible. Teenagers screaming through the halls, counting, yelling, running. Till 1am. We were there for a conference and did not sleep at all the 2nd night."
"Highly recommend this well run hotel with attentive staff. We had a very uneventful stay - everything was as it needed to be. We enjoyed their grab and go breakfast with sausage/bacon egg and cheese sandwiches, outdoor AND indoor pool, and gift shop. This is a middle of the road hotel ended up feeling higher end due to great management and attention to detail."
"Let me start off by saying what I wish I had seen in a review before booking: this is NOT the Ritz Carlton… and you shouldn’t expect that. BUT- I just wrapped up a two night stay and wholeheartedly recommend this quirky, but sweet hotel. When we arrived, we were a little unsure. This was our first trip to Maine and we booked online. The outside is a little dated, and the lobby decor is as well. Our pause at the cosmetics of the place was quickly forgotten when we spoke with the desk clerks. We arrived super early, but they allowed us to hang out at the pool while waiting and brought our keys out as soon as our room was ready. Throughout our stay, they were kind, helpful, and gave us great recommendations and directions when we asked. Speaking of the pool, we were so impressed by the spacious courtyard, large (clean) outdoor pool, and beautiful landscaping. It’s been a while since we’ve stayed at an older hotel and this one area of the Fireside Inn inspired feelings of nostalgia. While the hotel also has an indoor pool (like all of the big name brand hotels do), why would you even want to sit in a stuffy glass room when you could enjoy beautiful Maine summer afternoons in such a peaceful setting? Our two rooms were clean and very spacious. When booking, I’d recommend requesting a room with a courtyard view. We had one courtyard room and one lot-facing room and there were definitely two distinct vibes. (You want the former.) I’d recommend bringing your own bath soaps & shampoos. Breakfast was available, but nothing to write home about. We appreciated the variety of granola and oat bars; the muffins and biscuits were not the best but honestly- have you ever really had a great hotel breakfast? The coffee was good, and that’s probably the most important part. There are plenty of great places to eat in Portland, so I’d recommend getting a snack at the hotel then hitting the town. The only thing really off-putting about the place was the price, BUT the weekend we stayed, this was one of the cheapest options around. We all agreed we are glad we paid in the $300 range for the Fireside Inn rather than in the $400-500 range for the chain hotels. We loved how spread out the property was, we were grateful for the staff, and we loved the old school charm of the place."
