Reviews of Skowhegan Indian
"one of the more interesting and accessible attractions locally. the Skowhegan Indian watches downtown SkowTown and old hooskow across the street-broadcasting the local HooSkow low-power community FM radio @98.1FM WXNZ. give a listen as u tour the town!!! head straight to the local walking bridge to see the mermaid with two navels. can u answer the question as to why the Langlais Mermaid has two bellybuttons?"
"Interesting little spot. Odd to find in the parking lot behind the convenience store."
"This is a very special Skowhegan landmark and beautiful piece of Bernard Langlois' sculpture. Also a terrific place to eat a quick lunch and watch people coming and going, if you like that sort of activity. Adjacent to Cumberland Farms convenience store and gas station."
"I love this piece of art, as well as, his other pieces displayed by the Indian and around Skowhegan. The Indian was restored approximately 4 or 5 years ago after the city had a request for bids open for many years as termites and ants had been eating away at the Indian. Following the restoration, the city of Skowhegan installed other wooden pieces of art by the Indian and the Riverwalk."
"Excellent tribute to the Native heritage of the area, but in a little rough shape these days. Looks like It's in the process of preservation efforts though. Nothing too spectacular, sadly in a back parking lot of some businesses. Proud landmark for the locals though, with good reason, but not like a national monument or anything. Definitely worth seeing, and taking a photo of if you're in the area of Skowhegan, even if just to say you did. Also no fee, so free is always good."
