Lowell Holly Reservation
About the Business
Lowell Holly Reservation is a picturesque park and tourist attraction located on South Sandwich Road in Mashpee, Massachusetts, United States. This 135-acre reservation is a stunning peninsula adorned with groves of American holly trees, a rare sight along the New England coast. Named after its donor, Abbott Lawrence Lowell, the reservation also features plantings of rosebay and catawba rhododendrons, reflecting Lowell's horticultural tastes. Wilfred Wheeler, Sr., a former Massachusetts Secretary of Agriculture, further enhanced the landscape by planting 50 varieties of American holly.
Visitors can wander along carriage roads and foot trails that meander through the reservation's old-growth forest, passing by Mashpee and Wakeby Ponds which offer fishing opportunities. The reservation also boasts a swimming beach, although there is no lifeguard on duty. From Memorial Day to Labor Day, limited seasonal beach parking is available Wednesday through Sunday. Year-round access is also available with a smaller parking area for six cars.
Lowell Holly Reservation is dedicated to preserving Massachusetts' special places, with The Trustees managing roughly 27,000 acres of ecologically significant environments. The institution works with members, government officials, and partners to implement public policies that protect these valuable landscapes. Additionally, the reservation offers a variety of hands-on classes and events, including bread making, farm explorations, and more.
Whether you're looking to explore nature, relax on the beach, or participate in educational activities, Lowell Holly Reservation offers a unique and enriching experience for visitors of all ages.

Reviews
"Well maintained trails and clear map. Tree markers are a bit sparse, but a full map post with "You Are Here" is placed at every intersection. Great hilly terrain with optional jaunt up the highest hill, plenty of pond viewing."
"Excellent reservation with beautiful pond views, beach, varied trails and very well marked. The only reason I did not give five stars is the many protruding tree roots on the red trail that can be a tripping hazard."
"Beautiful long or short hike with breathtaking lake views. Excellent place to meditate and bring your dog for some fun exercise!"
"Great area hiking, no hunting is allowed, swimming is very good. Dog walking is extremely popular."
