Spencers

"Yesterday I went to Spencer's around 6pm. My teenage nephew (who is autistic) had just walked out when my significant other and I went in. One of the girls working walked out of the store to make sure my nephew was gone and then came back in saying "what was that?" To her coworker. They then continued to giggle and make jokes about how strange he was. One girl asked the other if he spoke to her and she said , "no I was hoping he wouldnt". And they continued to laugh and asked each other if it was autism and said yeah probably. They then made a remark about some motion he did that was similar to a cartwheel (this is a physical stim) and said he probably was thinking he was gonna do that and try to make one of them "fall in love with him". He was just quietly browsing and stimmed . Even after realizing he was autistic they continued to make jokes about hom and rude comments with customers in their store. I tried my best to ignore it but then they said they could look back at the security footage to watch it again. The "it" being my teenage autistic nephew. I am appalled and truly hoping neither of them are managers because that behavior is unexceptable in front of customers. You never know who is going through something, if the customer might know that person or be autistic themselves."
