"Disappointed. I did reach out to Deana McGovern regarding my concerns prior to posting this to get her perspective and felt as though the ball was just thrown back at me instead of making a suggestion for a resolution. I explained I felt it was a waste of money for the bookkeeping services since I found many issues and was responded to pretty defensively about “emails and phone calls” that she responded to which she was saying made it worth the money. I’ve had at least one, if not more, of my emails inquiring about proper accounting for a specific situation ignored as well so not sure what Deana was referencing. She did provide some advice regarding a 1031 I was considering and that was helpful yet unrelated to my concerns. She also said she gave me a 50% discount on the hourly rate because I was a “new and growing client”. I did try to check back for the detailed invoice I asked for and could not find but if I do recall correctly I was charged an hourly rate of over $200… I’m hoping she’s not insinuating her hourly rate is over $400? Anyway, wouldn’t recommend. I was looking to have my books done to have a full financial picture and also in prep for taxes and was told things missing like accumulated depreciation, incorrect classification of expenses, etc were only done during tax time (was I baited to have to get my taxes done with them? Because their rate is pretty high). Seems strange. I was also told twice that they didn’t do things such as put account numbers on the accounts because I told them I would have a friend do it after I requested it be done and was not (referencing my cost accountant friend). This may be true, however, I don’t recall and if I did say that it’s because I’d asked to have my books done including the account numbers and paid for it… I wasn’t about to pay a second time to not get what I thought I should have already received. The accountant who worked on my books was very nice so that’s a positive. I just felt she was very junior and I would’ve liked to have a CPA set them up initially or at least thoroughly reviewed and have my accounts done properly to have a good foundation. That’s not what I received. I’m having to go through everything, set up accounts, delete erroneous ones, correctly classify everything that was misclassified. This is why it seems as though it would’ve just been best to not have them touch them in the first place. I believe I paid around $1700 for what I had done and it’s a mess"
