Museum of Work & Culture 42 South Main Street, Woonsocket, RI 02895
About the Business
The Museum of Work & Culture in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, tells the powerful story of immigrants who came to the mill towns along the Blackstone River in search of a better life. Visitors can experience the journey of these immigrants, from a Quebecois farmhouse to the bustling world of Woonsocket at the turn of the century. Through nine immersive exhibits, guests can explore the lives of immigrants at home, work, and school.
Currently on display is the Art Stars: Voices exhibit, featuring the work of student artists from Beacon Charter School’s Founders Academy. This exhibit showcases the students' artistic talents and allows them to share their voices through their artwork.
In collaboration with the Welcome Blanket Project and Dorcas International Institute of Rhode Island, the museum will present an exhibit in its changing gallery that provides an opportunity for local makers, particularly knitters, crocheters, quilters, and crafters, to contribute handmade blankets for refugee families.
The museum's gift shop items are available online, offering a selection of history books, locally made products, children's books, and games.
Located in a beautifully restored mill in historic Market Square Woonsocket, the Museum of Work & Culture is a versatile venue for various events, from meetings and receptions to birthday parties and reunions.
Admission prices vary, with discounts available for seniors, veterans, students, and groups of 10 or more. Children under 10 are free with an adult, and RIHS Members and EBT Cardholders also receive free admission.

"A Great Place To Learn All About How Once Poor But Very Skilled French Canadian American Immigrant's Founded & Created Work & Settled In Woonsocket,The BlackStone Valley of Northern RI , Massachusetts & Southeastern MA as well. Creating, Built & Establishing The Textile, Weaving & Clothing Manufacturing Business Industry In The Early 1800's Brick, Stone & Morter Mills Of America. Bravely & Boldly Hoping to Seeking A New, Better Way of Life for Their Families. A Great Interesting Way For Anybody to "SEE & Experience" What Different Ethnic Cultures & Diverse Language & "/Strong Family Values, Religion & Work Ethics" They Brought to The U.S. Table From Our Sister Country In Québéc, Canada & Eventually from Some Other Different Immigrant Culture's Elsewhere. Self-touring is Encouraged & Tours are given As well by Appointment Or As Scheduled. A Souvenir Shop & Public Restrooms available Here as well. This Museum Is Both Historic & Educational But NEVER Boring! ;) It's Very Interesting & Time Is Worth Spending Here."
"Such a fun little museum! It does a surprisingly good job telling the story of Woonsocket through a mix of mediums and exhibits, and I enjoyed the recreations of rooms and places that you can walk into. I also strongly appreciated the option to listen to the audio guide in French, given the French history and connections with this city."
"This Museum in revitalized Woonsocket offers an invaluable at the true start of America's Industrial Revolution, the evolution of the textile industry and the Union days of the ITU. It has wonderful curated displays of local baseball stars, parochial schools and importantly the Quebecois migration that helped shape an industry. Come learn how one mill contributed to the pre-Normandy Ghost Army in WWII. You can even learn about the founding of the CVS corporation by two townie brothers. The volunteer staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. A little gift shop has assorted books to help a visitor take away knowledge. This Museum is well worth a few hours of your historical time. Eateries along the historic Blackstone River and Falls offer scenic dining."
"I grew up around here but have been living in North Carolina for the last 5 years. My husband and I love museum dates! The tickets were reasonably priced and there was so much to learn, lots of interactive areas. Its truly amazing. You NEED to spend some time here if you haven't yet!"
