"Very large swimming pool. Massage was good"
"Had a wonderful facial here. However, I was not happy about the automatic gratuity. I would have actually tipped more than the automatic amount, but was not given the chance. What if my service was just so-so? What if it was not good at all? That's the point of gratuity, it should match your experience. I know what the argument is...it assures that jerks don't get a great massage or whatever and then give $5 bucks. But it's not my job to see that the staff is fairly compensated. It's the spa's. The gratuity is extra."
"My husband and I were really looking forward to a couples massage at Spa Fjor this past week and left early from Boston to start our 2-days in Newport with a 10am massage. Check in was friendly and the facility was small but very impressive (nice music, changing rooms, candles, vibe). We were in the waiting room when the two staff members (two older women, forgot their names) that would do our massages abruptly came in and both seemed either annoyed or agitated in a weird way and told us to follow them. Once the massage started it felt rushed and half-hearted. There was no pressure but I didn't want to complain because she had already rolled her eyes at me when I got in her way while entering the small room with our tables, so I tried to just enjoy it as 50 minutes of relaxation but even that was hard. The music being played stopped every few minutes (the entire time) as if it was on someones phone and constant texts were coming through (?) so that was annoying. I didn't expect her to keep touching my hair with her oiled hands which left me feeling (and looking) gross the rest of the day until we could get in our rooms and shower. We paid extra for hot stones and I was disappointed to realize it just meant her briefly having hot rocks in her hands that were rubbed over me quickly..not sure what I was expecting but that wasn't it. I would have been able to get past ALL of that if the woman doing it didn't seem annoyed by me the whole time, or as if she didn't want to be there, which made me feel super uncomfortable. I was hoping my husband was having a better experience but he was also very disappointed in the quality of his massage. It was a bummer because the last time we had a couples massage was 22 years ago so we were excited to book this little luxury. I hate leaving bad reviews but felt this was a negative enough experience that I would want to know if I was considering booking a treatment at Spa Fjor."
"At the time of booking 2 massages I was never asked if myself or my partner had a preference for a man or woman, nor were we consulted with on it upon checking in for the appointment (30 min prior). When it came time for the massage there two male masseuses and my partner was not comfortable with that arrangement. Instead of being treated respectfully, he was reprimanded (saying that it was discriminatory for him to refuse to be touched by a man) and payment was demanded. The massage was already paid for via Travelzoo so the woman at the front desk took his credit card and charged gratuity for a massage he never received. Frankly, it was a terrible customer experience and the woman made assumptions about my partner without considering why he may not be comfortable being touch by one gender vs. another...a choice that EVERYONE should be provided when it comes to a massage."
"One of the best massages I’ve had. The ambience of the spa is so serene. All staff make it the best experience. The refreshments, showers, sauna, bathrooms, toiletries provided... all make it an all around exceptional experience. The decor, smell, lighting in every room you enter is relaxing and sets the mood. The massage was amazing and techniques performed were some of which I’ve never experienced- beyond amazing. They exceeded my highest expectations. The spa is a MUST. Do yourself a favor and book a service with them!"
