"Spectacular July 4th at the Marblehead Summer House. My husband and I travelled to Marblehead, Mass to visit with friends, and had a chance to stay in the Marblehead Summer House. The Innkeeper John is terrific and helpful. The location could not be beat and the room was super comfortable. It is really fun to stay in the old houses from the 16th and 17th centuries. One of the great beauties of Marblehead is that the homes are all still there, just like they were. We had a terrific ground floor suite room with sitting are, wide beamed wood floors, four poster bed, and all the modern conveniences of wifi, cable TV, and air conditioning. The location is steps from everything yet you feel privacy in your room. In the rear of the Inn is a hidden garden with garden chairs, perfect for a glass of wine or cup of coffee among the flowers. Steps away is the Barnacle famous for home made breakfast and fried dough. The Muffin shop is up the street - no problem finding excellent food all around. The Marblehead harbor is spectacular and the Inn backs onto Crocker Park which has a hillside view of the ocean - just incredible. There is even a swimming platform there. Highly recommend the Marblehead Summer House. We plan to return as often as we can. Kendall Annapolis, Maryland"
"My wife and I stayed here on our way back from New Hampshire and Maine after Bike Week. We were in Salem and did not feel like fighting traffic. I found the information for Marblehead Summer House online and made a call. John, the proprietor, told us to head over, as he had a room available for the evening. This is was best decision that we could have made. Not only was the room perfect, but the access to Old Marblehead is incredible. John was a more than gracious host and we look forward to going back very soon."
"I'm submitting this review quite some time after my stay, to be sure, but that doesn't mean it's any less valid than other, more recent, ones. I had the pleasure of staying at the Marblehead Summer House in late October/early November 2012 (I arrived the night before Superstorm Sandy made landfall). My ground-floor room was very, very comfortable, in regard to both furnishings and temperature, no matter the weather outside (though the bathroom was a tad chilly in the mornings before the heater kicked in). The Summer House is within easy walking distance of a handful of good dinner restaurants and the Driftwood diner, just down the street, serves some mighty fine breakfasts. The Summer House is also perfectly situated should one decide to explore Old Town Marblehead which, if you're there, you really ought to do. I've been really looking forward to a return visit and have, in fact, already booked the same room I stayed in two years ago for a week's vacation next year. If you have the opportunity to do so, I highly recommend staying here. You won't be sorry!"
"We have stayed here on three different occasions and each time we have been very pleased by our room and the service. Let's start with the rooms - each is uniquely pleasant and no two are alike, which is part of the appeal - each time our accommodations were different but no less good. Most importantly, they were CLEAN. We have never had any issues with cleanliness. Old school tubs are great and the beds have always been quite plush and comfortable. Being a techie, I also appreciated the wifi, which was a nice touch. The location is one of the MSH's best features. If you are looking to visit historic old town Marblehead, this is THE place to stay. It is within close walking distance of everything you might want to visit as well as full grocery, liquor store (because a little extra vacationing can't hurt) and several decent restaurants. I love the fact that I can park my car and forget it when I stay there. The fact that you are less than a minute's walk from the ocean cannot be undersold. You open the gate from the back yard, take a few steps through a quiet public park, and you are right on the water. We love to watch the sunrises and listen to the gentle clang of the sailboats' rigging each morning. John, the owner, has always treated us well. He told us that he grew up in the area and it shows. Whatever we needed or wanted to see, he seemed to know where to find and how to get there. We have no doubt that his recommendations and directions have made our stays both more enjoyable and just plain easier. My wife and I recommend Marblehead Summer House to anyone traveling to the area and will be sure to stay there next time."
"My family (with my spouse and with a small child) has stayed at the Marblehead Summer House on several visits to Marblehead. We’ve stayed in different rooms, and each is so unique. The top floor with the walkout to the deck is awesome- looking over the private backyard (and knowing the ocean is just over the hill!) We’ve also stayed on the first floor. Although the old-style bath is somewhat different, it is part of the experience and makes the stay what it should be- unrushed and enjoyable. I love the history of the house and being in the center of Old Town. The location can’t be beat- it is steps from the harbor with amazing views of the boats and the lighthouse in the distance. It is also within walking distance from shops, restaurants and Driftwood- best “towny” breakfast place there is. John, the owner, is a walking history book of the house and the area, and very accommodating. I definitely recommend Marblehead Summer House for a romantic getaway, or family vacation while visiting Marblehead!"
