Reviews of Federation Early Learning Services (FELS) Kehillah Early Learning Center
"Kehillah was the only childcare facility that was fair about their enrollment and waitlist. When they didn’t have a spot for my child by our desired start date, our enrollment fee was refunded. Having spent hundreds of dollars to get on daycare waitlists, I really appreciated their policy and I believe it speaks to the integrity of their program."
"We love Kehillah. My son has absolutely thrived there the past two years and he adores his teachers and classmates. My daughter will be starting there soon as well. We wouldn’t send them anywhere else after having such a great experience there so far."
"We absolutely love Kehillah! Our daughter started at Kehillah at 13 months old and has been there for about 5 months now. The staff is wonderful- they all knew our daughter's name within days of her starting and genuinely seem to happy to see her each day. We receive a daily report about her eating, drinking, bathroom, and activities. Kehillah also sends photos of her every day so we can see her smiling and having fun. She comes home knowing new songs, words, and concepts, and the activities she does work on refining her motor skills. She's learned so much! Having been born during the pandemic, it's incredible to see our daughter interacting and enjoying time with other toddlers. Kehillah has also been great with Covid-19 protocols; all staff wear masks, sanitize the rooms, etc. We've felt very comfortable and safe with the center's handling of the pandemic. Overall, we highly recommend!"
"My family has had a wonderful experience at Kehillah. Contrary to other reviews, I have found the facility to be clean and that my child's diaper is changed frequently, she is well-fed, and well cared for. The teachers are wonderful, helpful, supportive, and there is good communication between the teachers and parents. The program is educational, incorporating a learning pedagogy called "creative curriculum". The teachers reinforce important health, safety, and manners related behaviors. When discipline is necessary the teachers use redirection. The best part is my daughter really loves the school and is very happy there. I would highly recommend Kehillah and not put too much stock in older reviews. Talk to families who have been there more recently. The currently director and assistant director are both fairly new and have done amazing work at the school."
"I'll leave the review I wish I had read before choosing this daycare center. My husband and I chose Kehillah based on keystone stars, thinking that if a center had 4 keystone stars, it had to meet a specific standard of care that would worth paying more for. Our child spent 3 years at the center, and each year gave us more reason to consider leaving but by the time we began looking for a new daycare, the waiting lists were already full elsewhere. The infant rooms were pretty disorganized and all of the staff have since left. There were multiple occasions where we realized my child didn't have any liquids their entire day and at least once where the breast milk I brought in was still sitting in the fridge at the end of the day-- meaning my baby ate nothing for 8 hours or was fed something else. The second cause for concern was a parent association meeting that was absolutely packed with over 30 parents voicing similarly alarming concerns. Several parents also stated that they were looking to take their child out of the daycare if things didn't improve. In the three years our child was at the center, there had been three different directors. We found out at this meeting that this turnover had been happening for almost a decade. This was when we started applying elsewhere. In the older toddler room, we went through three lead teachers within the first few months of our time there. When we took our child out of the daycare for the most recent summer we came back to find that they had forgotten to hold a spot for us, which we paid a deposit for, and they placed our child with a completely different group of younger children. Instead of owning up to the mistake, the first response we were given was that this was intentional because our child needed to be developmentally reassessed. It later came to light that there is no assessment given to any of the children to "move on"-- this was just an excuse given to cover a clerical error. We have since left and couldn't be happier with our decision, especially in light of discovering that the most recent director is leaving now after less than 6 months. All that being said, there are teachers here who are genuinely great people and really seem to try to do what's best for the children. The facilities are amazing but at the end of the day, you have to trust the people who are watching your kid. It struck us that this was a top down problem with the organization as a whole."
