Reviews of KIDS FIRST Swim School - Broomall
"Took my son here and wouldn’t return after two sessions. As my son is only two and doesn’t always listen to directions, I felt as though I was being judged by the instructor when he would act up here and there by her comments and actions. At the same session, I witnessed one of the employees scream at a child at the top of their lungs. I would never allow anybody to speak to my child that way. Very rude, unprofessional, and disappointing."
"Took my son for his first lesson the other day, and I wasn’t thrilled. Most of my issues are facility related, which is important to the overall experience. First issue: after checking in, I was given no directions on where to go, where changing rooms and bathrooms were. The girl at the desk didn’t know it was my first time because it wasn’t notated. Second issue: the changing room has no lighting (just dimly lit from the lights in the hall), there is also no seating in the rooms. You get a hook on the door for your items. Third issue: I walked into the pool area and was given this strange look by one of the instructors as he glanced at his watch twice before telling me I have four minutes until my session. The issue here is that again this was my first visit and I was not given any instructions or details. Fourth issue: there’s no gap in between classes. You are rushing out as the next class is coming in. I understand trying to make the most the time given. But five minutes in between classes would give parents an opportunity to gather their children and their belongings. The instructor we had was nice, she was pleasant and patient with my one year old. The young lady at the front desk was also nice. The pool was warm, seemed clean enough. My biggest issue is the facility itself. At $135 for six sessions…I will finish our sessions but I will not go back once the six weeks is up."
"I have found the swimming instruction for my 4 year old to be good. He loves his instructor. However, there is NO interaction between the parents and the instructors. The parents are not allowed in the pool area and the next class enters as the first class leaves. There is also no written report of any progress. It is difficult to see what is occurring from the observation windows. The MAJOR problem with the program is the facility itself. The changing rooms are dark and have no chairs or shelves. It is impossible for one to change without placing their clean clothes on the floor and then their bathing suits. If a parent needs to change a child, they must stoop down or sit on the floor. When I expressed to the desk that only one room had a bench, I was told that the rooms used to have chairs, but the children pushed the chairs into the walls which made marks, so the chairs were removed. They likely couldn’t see the walls. Even more surprising, on my subsequent visit, the bench was removed from the one room that had one. I would not recommend a facility that has so little regard for their customers and their needs."
"We enrolled our 2 kids in semi private lessons in early 2022. The facilities at Kids First were very run down at the time (not sure if this has been fixed), with doors on nearly all changing rooms that were difficult to close or broken. Lighting was dark and dismal. One of my kids' lessons was turned into a group lesson because they didn't have enough instructors that day. There was no consistency with who was their instructor. Regardless of who it was, they were unenthusiastic and did very little to make my kids comfortable in the pool or enjoy the experience. We heard great things about Kids First from friends, but it seems as though that was pre-pandemic and they no longer provide the same quality of instruction. My advice - skip this place and go to Goldfish, which is amazing."
"My daughter missed her final lesson. I was hoping that I could schedule a makeup lesson, but Kids First does not offer makeups for group lessons - you can get a Family Swim Pass for them to "practice" swimming, but no instructor is present. In addition, my daughter did not pass level three. This means that we will have to shell out another $105 to repeat everything she just learned (level 3). After emailing back and forth with the district manager, he told me that "No it is not fair to expect them to master the skills in 6 weeks, as I mentioned previously the average is 2-3 sessions per level so in some cases it takes children 12 to 18 weeks, we focus on the child's progression at their own pace not the time line." What does that mean? Instead of making the sessions longer (maybe eight or ten lessons) and pricing accordingly, they make each session six lessons knowing most kids will not move on to the next level after one session. So, if you're okay with paying $200-$300 to pass one level, then this is the place for you."
