Burton Island Trailhead

Burton Island Trailhead is a park located at 39445 Inlet Road, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, United States. This short trail around the island offers stunning views of the inland bays, salt marsh, and wildlife. The trailhead and parking lot are situated on the north end of the Indian River Marina inside the Delaware Seashore State Park. Burton Island is the largest island in a group separating the Rehoboth Bay from the Indian River Bay. Raised boardwalks lead you over the salt marshes with clear views of the bays, where you may spot horseshoe crabs, osprey, and other marsh wildlife. The flat, packed earth trail passes through woods and shrub forests, making it best enjoyed in the fall, winter, or early spring. The trail is closed for hunting on certain days, so it's advisable to check the schedule before visiting. A park entrance fee is charged from March to November, with Delaware residents paying $5 per day and out-of-state visitors paying $10. The trail is a favorite among nature enthusiasts for observing wildlife and birdwatching, although bug spray is recommended due to the presence of mosquitoes and deer flies.
