"They Never gave me what I asked for even when pics were shown. Then once I told them they just laughed. I’ve spent at least $2,000 and the Owner acts like she doesn’t know me. Some of the regular braiders are good but there needs to be an Attitude Change. I found another shop that Respects me and my Money!"
"Awful and very unprofessional. My daughter had a 8:30 appointment. We arrived at 8:30 only to find no one to do our hair. They said someone was coming. I waited until 9:10 and asked again.. was told maybe around 9:30.. as if my time is not important.. there were empty chairs when we arrived and the let the chair sit empty waiting instead of taking my child and we had an appointment - I guess waiting for people they know or their friends. No apology or anything. And they seemed agitated at any questions. I know their business won’t shut down overnight but it’s only a matter of time if they continue to act as if their customers are not important. Will never go back again. There are too many other places to continue to accept total disregard of other peoples time.."
"I haven’t been in a while but I went on a Saturday morning and was told I needed an appointment which is fine! But I’m glad I didn’t have one according to the reviews below and they added more chairs so it was people on top of people in there! I found a new shop on route 13 called Nubian Braiding. The shop was clean and the ladies had great customer service."
"I was conflicted to write this review because I’ve been going to Tess’ for over 5 years and love their work and the people but after having the same experience with the same braider, I have to leave some feedback. The vast majority of the staff are very approachable but a handful need to work on their professionalism and how they interact with clients. In any creative field, it’s important to be able to take criticism and constructive feedback but some braiders get very defensive if you ask for the simplest request. I scheduled an 8 AM appointment on the 3rd of this month. First and foremost, they tend to overbook for the amount of braiders that are available. On several occasions I’ve seen clients walk out and leave because their scheduled appointments turned into an hour of them waiting. When I arrived there were only two braiders on site and they were both working on clients which is fine because that’s not a lot of people . (I arrived at 7:50) My braider came a half an hour later and didn’t start until around 8:40ish. Her work is very good but she’s very heavy handed and my hair was completely detangled. I always get $180 length box braids and this time the ombré shade that I wanted didn’t have a shorter option for the back (my hair is very thick and just below my shoulders blow dried) Before the braider realized she had already separated the longer braiding hair that’s used for the front and middle sections of the hair and she tried to tell me to pay $200. I then told her that I’d choose a different shade because I always do $180 length and the $200 length would have gone below my butt, which I don’t like. Another braider, a very sweet woman who always asks me how I am, told her to just cut the hair to be shorter for the back portion of my hair. She did just that but then she told me that next time I’ll pay $200. (Absolutely not because that’s not the length I do. I’ll just choose a different color) It took her about 6 hours to complete my hair and it looked great but a day after I noticed that ONE braid was significantly lower down on my forehead than the other ones. I went back a few days later to get it fixed and you could tell she was offended. Not once did I say that I didn’t like the hair. I just wanted the braid to be on a more even level than the other ones. Another braider fixed it and did an amazing job as well and when I was leaving, the woman that originally did my hair days prior said “next time, ask for them to be straight across”. I don’t mind my hair not being perfectly straight across my forehead, I just didn’t like that ONE braid was very noticeably lower down than the other ones. (I tried to express that but I don’t think she understood what I meant.) At some point I was told that I should book with specific braiders. That’s not necessary to ME because I think they all do a great job! But if a paying client asks for a service to be altered, there’s no need to take offense Overall, I will still be returning because these woman do a great job and I’ve been going here since 2016 when I began college and they all know me but some really need to work on being polite, being able to take feedback without taking a simple request as an insult, and refraining from being agitated with the client there. Complaining about a client, especially while they’re in earshot is not appropriate. Thank you to all of the other women that work there for always being kind! Attached is my hair blow dried and a photo of the box braids I got!"
