"Nothing but good things to say about everyone who works here. They were fantastic and helped us through a tough time. They were able to warn us of some challenges we would have so we were better prepared."
"I want to start by saying the morality rates of black women and babies are ridiculously high. Being a black woman that is expecting is stressful and terrifying. Not because I’m afraid to die but an experience as natural as childbirth can drastically change or end your life in a first world country. I have a high risk of dying just because I’m black and that has nothing to do with me. With that said, I have to trust the people that are providing me care. It started with scheduling an appointment. I spoke to a member of the office staff, she scheduled my appointment but she didn’t know whether they took my insurance. She said she would call me back. I never received a call. I went to the appointment anyway. When I got there, I was asked for my insurance again. Not a big deal but a little annoying. Then I went to the back a member of the staff having a personal conversation in the same room. The sonogram went fine. The doctor came in. She went over a few things. Overall I was underwhelmed but it was fine. After I took the glucose test, they called me to schedule an appointment and I didn’t know why. Later I found out that my OBGYN sent the results to them before telling me. Not TLC’s fault, however; I feel as though they should’ve asked me if I received the results and waited at least 24 hours to call me giving the OBGYN time to contact me. They called me right after. I don’t know if TLC Calle them to let them know or it was a coincidence. Then I had an appointment with the nutritionist. She is nice and polite. I had reservations because I don’t think she can speak to my needs as we’re culturally different. She provided resources but they were all from a white perspective. I’m black and I’m Jamaican (we have healthy food too). I need to be treated by someone who understands me in order to be successful. The office told me they would order a glucose monitor through my insurance. It’s been awhile and I still don’t know if they take my insurance nor have I received the monitor or an update. Fast forward to today. 1) I didn’t want to go to another appointment the day after an appointment with the OBGYN. 2) They’re in the same building but I had to comeback the next day. So when I got there, the person at the desk asked me if I had an appointment. (Innocent but annoying question) I gave her my last name (that’s all she asked for) and she said I didn’t have an appointment. I said I do. Then I gave her my first name. She found me and said my appointment is at 1:00. I said no. Then she said let me see if we can take you early and she went to the back. After further thought, it could’ve been at 1 and I just forgot. I had a lot going on. When she came from the back she didn’t say a word. I left and decided I was going to look for another provider. I found one. Just scheduling my first three appointments (that’s how efficient they are) was a night and day difference from TLC. I am not suggesting that anyone shouldn’t seek care here but it wasn’t a fit for me. Advocate for yourself and seek providers that make you feel comfortable. The office staff is your frontline if they are rude and/or disorganized. Pregnancy and childbirth is serious. Go somewhere else. The doctors maybe perfectly fine but you may not even make it that far depending on the staff. Update: I saw a diabetic specialist with my new provider and it turns out I received some bad information from the nutritionist this facility has on staff. I was told that I was only able to eat up 15 grams of carbs and it seemed oddly low. I also didn’t feel well after starting the diet. My new provider recommends I should be eat double or more depending on the time of day. I’m so relieved I that I went somewhere else."
"I had a really terrible experience getting care here. It is my first pregnancy and I was treated like another overweight, black woman who was incapable of taking care of herself. There was a mix-up and miscommunication regarding my medication. This resulted in my not having any diabetic medication for a week and a half. When I emailed to follow up about it, it was days before I received a response and a solution to the lack of medication. The focus on my insurance was odd to me and the person at the front desk made sure to emphasize that if I can't keep my insurance let us know. The nurse practitioner was so rude and abrasive, I literally cried. She then suggested I seek therapy and blame my hormones. The covert racism I experienced here was something I had never experienced before. I was spoken to and treated in a way no person should. If you have the option of going anywhere else, especially if you're a woman of color, Please go somewhere else."
"I wish I could give this place a zero. They are a huge joke and waste of time. If you desire true medical care and are high risk I highly suggest you not go there. They make you feel worse and do not care about the health of you unborn child, or your. They have no respect for your time and you could be waiting as long as 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 hours after your scheduled appointment time to be seen. Mind you then do not give you a heads up when they are running behind and when you ask no one seems to know anything. staff are unprofessional, Dr Katz is rude, insensitive, unprofessional, and is there because it’s a job not because he cares. Dr Broth is okay. They say every patient will receive excellent care but they do the opposite. If you make a complaint or voice your concerns they will release you as a patient because they say they don’t have time to deal with you. trust the reviews because they are true I have experience just how awful this practices first hand. Also they preach about the word of god like your in church which is not cool to bring your beliefs to the work place because not everyone has the same beliefs."
"Absolutely phenomenal practice! They were with me every step of the way as I prepared for the birth of my twins. I loved that they paid attention to every detail about the health of my babies, and that they did so with much care. Dr. Broth, Dr. V, NP Milka, the nurses, sonogram team, and all of the staff consistently took the time to explain all details and listen to my questions. I felt extremely confident with all of their advice and counsel. The office ambience was also very welcoming and calming. I honestly cried tears of gratitude at my last appointment because of the awesomely kind treatment I received at the several months of my weekly appointments. My newborn twins are thriving, happy, and healthy!"
