"I recently retired from insurance after a 40-year career. Over that time, I worked with a very long list of insurance carriers – some good, some not so good. During my last 25 years, I diversified into commercial real estate development, and currently own several commercial and residential properties in Waterville ME. The insurance industry goes through cycles, similar to, but not parallel with, the economy. The insurance industry has been in a “hard market” cycle for the last couple years, which makes it very challenging for agents to place business with the carriers they work with. I recently asked my agent, James Sanborn from Allen Insurance & Financial, to see what options might exist besides the two carriers I had chosen to insure with for many prior years. I also asked that he work with my existing carriers for ways to improve my program in the event no one else would be interested, given the current market conditions. James approached several carriers, and none were interested in working with us, except of one: Patrons Oxford! Patrons began an extensive and complex process of underwriting, loss control, and coverage analysis for my various properties and unique exposures. After a well thought out and comprehensive analysis by both James and Patrons Oxford, a list of suggestions and coverage enhancements and upgrades were suggested to me. I have transferred a significant portion of my real estate portfolio to Patrons Oxford. Of all the years I worked in insurance, it was one of the most impressive, professional, thorough and simple processes I’ve been through. And I’d go as far as to saying not just a positive experience with Patrons and Allen within the insurance industry but dealing with various large and small non-insurance businesses on a daily basis like most consumers do. "They Dropped my policy with little notice. Said “I was running a business Airbnb out of my camp because I might use rent it out on airbnb. No communication, no warning, no “hey you can’t do that or we will drop you” nothing. I pay my bill on time every month and never make insurance claims. They have a whim I might be doing something and instead of asking me “the customer!” They just assume and drop me. Worst company ever. Glad not to be giving them my money anymore! Will definitely spread the word. Plenty of other options out there. *update. No I wasn’t notified that my coverage is being dropped. I spoke with the broker exploring options and asking questions. I never committed to using Airbnb that was a question I asked. For some reason if I ask that question that implies, I am literally doing it ? Weird way to conduct business. Either way, I never committed to doing Airbnb and cancelling my policy without confirmation is not a company I want to give my money to on a monthly or yearly basis."
