"I started working here. I was told I would get paid for orientation (no pay). Stayed in a nasty hotel for the week I was there. Training was 3 weeks 1 week of classroom 2 weeks with a trainer on the road. They gave us breakfast & lunch the food was from a food truck. I got sick from it. I finished training and went back to the station. Got put in a 2022 freightliner with no inverter, took it for a test ride, and the dashboard lit up. I told my DM (Randel) who told me to drive it the lights would go off. Being a new driver, I was not going to do that. I took it to the on-site shop where they said there were 8 issues. I got a new truck and had the same issues I quit after that. I was on the road and had to take 2 days just to find an empty trailer. It's a bad company I do not recommend."
"I am not a driver, I work at one of the facilities that is frequented by Western Express. It's obvious they hire anyone because most of the drivers I encounter are not very intelligent. They don't listen follow or comprehend instructions. These are the type of people you put in control of a multi ton vehicle. This company seriously needs to revamp its training program."
"This is a very unsafe company. Their staff doesn't care about the driver's safety and they don't care about the driver at all. This is a place that wants to make money from the driver. If you see a western car on the road encountering a car accident. That's because some drivers have encountered fraud and unequal treatment in this company. They drive with emotions, which is really dangerous. Hope someone can come out and solve some problems. Western Express's attitude towards drivers is really bad. Many dispatches are unprofessional. If you don't really need to stay away from this company. They defraud drivers regardless of their safety."
"I have a family member that drives for this company. I’m grateful that they gave him a job right out of CDL school. But that is the only good thing I can say about this company. Their treatment of the drivers is simply inhumane. Drivers can spend five days and four nights on the road, and take home a paycheck of $3-400. They can spend 20 hours waiting for a load, or 10 hours broken down on the side of the highway. They can be required to pay for their own hotels, promised trucks and loads that never materialize. I see below someone complained about the driver’s room. I saw that room, and it is disgusting, and yet human resources responds by saying send us details and we will work on the problem. That was several years ago I believe. There is no respect for the drivers at this company. The pay is ridiculously low. These problems are not being solved. This is a company that sees its drivers as a resource to be used and abused, to be lied to and mistreated. I have spent decades in the American workforce and I have never seen human beings treated as poorly as drivers are treated by Western Express. am I being clear? Oh, and the recruiters totally lie about pay. Thanks for reading. Edit: I see HR responding to every comment in this thread, asking for specific suggestions. Here are a few: pay drivers $.90 a mile. Give them a stipend to pay for daily showers at truckstops. Pay them $200 for every 10 hour period that they are eligible for a load, but do not get one. Give them hotels when they break down. Don’t penalize them for going home for the night when their hours are up, and they are within an hour of their own warm bed. In short, treat them like human beings. This company seems to be locked in a death spiral where drivers are treated poorly, so some of them behave poorly, and this leads the company to treat them even worse. The millionaires who run this company are abusing the working men and women who made them rich. That’s disgusting."
"If I could give no star, I would. Around 3PM we were almost taken off of the road by one of their trucks yesterday driving home from VA. The drivers plates were from Tennessee (plate: 023330T). His rage started in stopped traffic where he was honking at everyone & LITERALLY swinging from lane to lane without signal. We had to abruptly get out of his way as did others. Then he switched to the emergency lane speeding and almost hit someone who was pulled over. If nobody was alert he would’ve caused multiple accidents. not sure if he needed some rest or what was going on, but the way the trailer was swinging seemed like he was crazed. He also looked like he was on the phone upset. Check your drivers !!"
