"I am very grateful for the education my children have received at LISG. The school has nurtured their intellect and enabled them to think outside the box. We also love the cultural diversity of the school."
"LISG was the bright point of my childhood. We all still talk on Facebook, and we share an espirit de corps that is very ... familial. Don't stress about the negativity: LISG is full of caring teachers who could easily teach at the college level. The focus should be on our children's education, and LISG teachers always allowed us to find our own level. Much love to all, Issy"
"I am a parent with (3) children attending The Long Island School for the Gifted. One is in lower school, one in middle, and the third in upper school. My children have attended this school since kindergarten and I am extremely pleased with all aspects of this institution. The academic environment is outstanding, challenging for each individual student as needed. The teachers are exceptional and it is quite evident that they care about their students, engaging them in the learning process and nurturing the individual within. Additionally, beyond the classroom and the academic experience provided by this school, there is a sense of community and a warm family environment. We have met some amazing families that share the same core values and feel we are incredibly lucky to have this school available to our children here on Long Island. Finally, an integral part of this school is the administration, and it has been our experience - a mere 8 years now, is nothing short of wonderful. We find the administration to be caring and nurturing. They are very knowledgeable and they do not hesitate to share their insight and years of experience with all of us. There is plenty of extra curricular activities for the student body to engage in within the parameters of a school day. If however, one is looking for individualized music instruction or after school sports, this school will disappoint as it is not available. However, I am not quite sure what public school or private school encompasses all these aspects. My children engage is such activities after school as they would have even if they attended a public or any other private school. Moreover, if one is interested in attending L.I.S.G., it is not athletics that you are interested in. The academic environment here at L.I.S.G. is unparalleled and our family is extremely happy we came upon this school."
"This school is awesome. It has a variety of classes and Extra curricular activities. The teachers are very nice and helpful. The school has small classes ranging from 16-30 students which gives the teachers the ability to individualize on students and see what they are doing instead of just the class as a whole which really helps you. You learn 1-3 grades above your level. So say that if you are in 8th grade, you can learn Trigonometry, Chemistry and read books such as "Ethan Frome" "The Odyssey" and " To Kill a Mockingbird" which really improves your child's education and also gives them a challenge in learning. LISG goes from Pre-K through 9th grade. To get into LISG your child must have an IQ of 130 or more. If your child wants an excellent education this is the place to be. Just a note: Common Core doesn't apply for any subject except for math. Hope you give it a try! Luke Farrell"
"I am a student here and these one star reviews are bs. This is a great school and one will learn a ton 1-3 grades above one's level. The only downside is that there is not much physical activity. Recess is 5-15 minutes long and one has gym only twice a week. The math and science programs are off the charts amazing. I definitely recommend this school! Just that it's all brain, no brawn."
