"Great forest to visit when your in Connecticut. There isn't an official parking lot but there are pockets of lots you can go to and leave your car. Many different trails to try out and the views are beautiful. Just make sure to put in bug repellent as there are lots of mosquitoes in the deep wooded areas. By the river there isn't much bugs and the sound of the water is relaxing."
"We tried to hike up to Toby’s Rock Mountain and the overlook on the orange and purple trails but couldn’t find the trail head from the Spruce Brook Road parking lot. Storm damage from tropical storm Isaias was not yet cleared. We did find the white, orange and red trails to a different overlook which was awesome. The red trail that connects to Spruce Brook Road is pretty steep in places. Take the white trail to the orange/red trail to the overlook if you want a moderate hike."
"This was a wonderful place, with all different levels of hikes, easier walks, for the beginners, and nice moderate trails, to get a good work out, and enjoy the steps. If you know how to follow markings on the trees, it's well marked, just keep focused and you'll stay on track. There was an amazing river, with spots along the way for people being able to jump in, and enjoy the cool refreshing water. And when you get the top, you see the amazing view, with the mountains in the distance, lakes right below you, at the bottom of the cliff, and the highway, with cars wizzing by. I truly enjoyed it! It's a hike that I would come back to. Just one down, I did get stung by a hornet, it hurt for 5-10 minutes, and was good after that, so watch out."
"This park is really beautiful and is very well marked. This is a great park to go hiking with the kids or go fishing with the family. It is also a great park to go canoeing or kayaking too. If you are recovering from some form of injury this is a moderate to easy trail."
"I had so much fun, it is a beautiful place with a lot of peace. The bad; I saw people walking their dogs without leash and some did not pick up the poop. Other than that the forest is quiet and walkable. The only thing that worries me is that hunting is permitted and I heard many gun shoots during my hike."
