Dover Stone Church Cave is a natural wonder located in Dover Plains, New York. Despite its name, it is not a church but rather a narrow limestone gorge with a triangular cave-like entrance. The site features a small set of cascades that emerge from the cave, creating a picturesque waterfall inside. The trail to the cave is a mix of gravel, paved steps, and natural stone, making it moderately difficult with some potentially slippery sections. The institution is part of a 558.2-acre preserve that offers 3 miles of wooded trails for visitors to explore. The site has historical significance, as it is believed to have been the final camp of Pequot tribe leader Sassacus, who met his demise here in the 1630s. The institution was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2014. Visitors are advised to stay on the designated trail and respect the private property rights of the landowners.

"First of all, thanks for the reviews mentioning the parking issues. It is annoying trying to figure out where to park, then walk to the trail. I am posting a picture of the sign that mentions places that allow you to park. Second issue is exactly how to reach the actual Stone Church cave itself. Once you cross the first bridge, you will see red and blue arrows pointing to the left. Instead, walk along the left side of the creek and you will come to the cave in ten to fifteen minutes walking carefully. Finally, this cave/waterfall series is so scenic and unique that it is worth the challenges. Rushing water, the rugged beauty, the history makes this hike worth walking."

"Parked at the school down the block as it doesn't have parking at the entry. There are 3 other loop trails at this location we weren't able to do this time but will plan to come back and do them all (longest was 1.5m). Cave was beautiful!"
