UConn Center for Land Use Education and Research (CLEAR)

The UConn Center for Land Use Education and Research (CLEAR) is located at 1066 Saybrook Road in Haddam, Connecticut. It is part of the College of Agriculture, Health, and Natural Resources at the University of Connecticut. CLEAR offers workshops, trainings, and tools to assist municipalities, businesses, and residents in preparing for the impacts of climate change. They provide high-resolution statewide land cover data and are expanding their Land Use Academy program to offer more training opportunities. Planning and zoning commissioners in Connecticut are required to complete training, and CLEAR has set up a statewide training calendar to help meet these requirements. They also collaborate with partners like Connecticut Sea Grant to provide outreach and tools for climate adaptation. CLEAR focuses on the impact of land use on water quality and quantity, and offers research, tools, and outreach programs to help make informed land use decisions. Their mapping expertise includes remote sensing analysis and training in geospatial technology. CLEAR also works on food-related programs to support local food systems. This institution is a partnership between UConn Extension, the Department of Natural Resources and the Environment, and Connecticut Sea Grant, with support from UConn and state and federal grants.
