Reviews of East Village Tavern
"Had lunch today and was not thrilled, especially for the price. Looks really neat inside with the lights, was mostly dead. Asked for a well done burger and got one that was completely rare in the middle. The frys that come with it were mostly limp and really sad and meh. Server didn't come back to the table for ten minutes, we didn't bother saying anything about the burger, don't think it would have resulted in anything but another sad burger and fries. Maybe whatever that building turns into next will have better food, I miss Bentley's Bistro!"
"Food was good but the chocolate cake tower is absolutely not a tower. I was, perhaps naively, expecting something resembling a small tower of sorts when I ordered the chocolate cake tower at this restaurant. I ordered it to go and, when I got home and opened the box, all that was within was a small slice of two-layer chocolate cake. It didn’t even have three layers like advertised. Last time I checked, frosting didn’t count as a layer when talking about the amount of layers in a cake. The cake was good, but tasted pretty similar to a box mix with store frosting—good, but nothing spectacular. Anyway, I was really just disappointed about it not being a tower. After a long drive home from Massachusetts with a supposed tower of cake in my possession, it was really underwhelming when faced with the slice itself. I recommend that the restaurant begin to serve actual towers of cake or just change the menu to “Chocolate Layer Cake”. This would do away with the empty promises. Plus, $10 is quite a lot for a small piece of run-of-the-mill chocolate cake and a scoop of vanilla ice cream, don’t you think?"
"Went on a Friday night, very crowded. My cob salad was very good, but pricey compared to other places. Parking was non- existent. I had to park next door. My server was very good and friendly. Just, had to wait for food and drinks. They had a band coming in and that brought out the drinking crowds. I will try it again, on a week night. It gets a solid 4 in my book. Enjoyed, my time there."
"LOVE this place. Highly recommend for any day of the week. They have Thursday Trivia and a great atmosphere to relax and enjoy some amazing mixology and great cuisine with proper proportions, we always leave happy and full. I usually get the fish tacos but I tried the Salmon and my boyfriend tried the steak firtts. The new management is fantastic the place is a pleasure to visit!"
"I want to love this place but something is just holding it back, it's okay. You will definitely like it and not regret your visit! The service: we had the pleasure of meeting a partner of the upcoming East Village Tavern. He was attentive and pleasant. The staff were also helpful but seemed frazzled, perhaps they were down a server that night, the girl in our section seemed super busy. The bartender didn't put garnishes (cherry for a fruit drink and olives for a martini), no biggie. We ordered bone-in wings and got chicken tenders instead. It was the little things... The food: still remains imaginative, and hip. But other places that serve similar dishes use less fats and oils. The food here remains very heavy. It's very fatty and buttery which makes it taste amazing but really makes you sluggish. I wish they would cut back on the oil and butter a bit. And offer lighter options and dishes. The Ruben was great. Fries were thin and crispy, with the option of sweet potato and truffle fries. The highlight of our meal were the fried edamame that come with a spicy aioli sauce. We've never seen this done before, very creative and tasty. The atmosphere: remains pretty loud, the bar in the center creates a lot of noise that's hard to get away from as the booths are built around it. It's an impressive setup with the long bar but not too practical. Other restaurants sperate the bar and dining for a reason, so the dinners can have intimacy and quiet and the bar can be rowdy and fun. The place right now is sort of in-between a transition, turning from Craft 32 to East Village Tavern. So it's in a bit of a rough shape, walls are bare and unpainted. I hope to see the final product soon. They plan on building a big patio on the side."
