Casa del Carnaval Calle Aguere, 17, 38005 Santa Cruz de Tenerife
Descripción
The institution "Casa del Carnaval" is a landmark in the way we understand the Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and represents a new way of understanding this festival, declared as an "International Tourist Interest Festival," and how we want it to be understood by its visitors. Located at the Barranco de Santos at the height of the Galcerán Bridge, with 1,052.74 square meters, the Casa del Carnaval is equipped with a permanent exhibition of costumes and elements highlighted in the field of the Carnival. It also includes a multipurpose room, called Sala Suspi, in honor of a renowned murguero, which facilitates temporary exhibitions and presentations of all kinds, a store where visitors can find Casa del Carnaval merchandise and take home a souvenir, as well as a space for the rest of the public, which aims to be a cafeteria in the future. In the same line, there is a documentation and research center for the carnival heritage, aimed at experts, journalists, students, and researchers, which will not only catalog the funds but also provide public access to all the carnival heritage.
Undoubtedly, a visit to the Casa del Carnaval will be a unique experience, thanks to the different digital applications that allow visitors to feel and experience the festival from the inside, including costume trials. The Casa del Carnaval is aimed at four target audience groups: tourists, the carnival community, specialists and researchers, and the general public. Inside, there is a permanent exhibition, designed as an attractive, sensory, comfortable, and entertaining space that presents flexible equipment to accommodate collections and content of different types, documentary funds, and multimedia resources. The exhibition will vary annually, incorporating the costume of the current Carnival Queen, as well as those used by the winners of the last Carnival (adult and children's murgas, musical groups, comparsas...).
The costume of the current Carnival Queen is the key piece located in the hall that bears her name, surrounded by her ladies-in-waiting, and serves as an introduction to the permanent exhibition, where eight independent modules with multilingual screens are located, explaining different aspects of the carnival. At the beginning of the tour, visitors will find different carnival posters, as well as a videowall at the end of it with videos alluding to this festival. This videowall leads to an educational and interactive space, where visitors and students can learn first-hand about the Carnival of Santa Cruz.
In addition, numerous contents have been added, such as the new audioguide system, which allows access to the tour of the enclosure with multimedia content in English, Spanish (with and without subtitles), and French through mobile devices. During the visit, there will also be digital resources that guarantee a complete immersion in our festival. The extensive exhibition hosted by the Casa del Carnaval is dedicated to all those who have made our Carnival possible, from the queens, designers, and designers, to the pioneers of the different groups of the Carnival of Santa Cruz. A very relevant part, due to its artistic and heritage value, is the permanent exhibition of the posters announcing the Carnival of different years, including that of 2023. Likewise, in the exhibition, we can continue to admire the three jewels of the Casa: the Adult Queen, the Children's Queen, and the Elderly Queen, distributed in different rooms, as well as the carnival groups that undoubtedly perpetuate our festival, highlighting the winners, as well as the Carnival Characters, for whom a charming space has been enabled and which includes new characters. The Casa del Carnaval also has a multipurpose room, called Sala Suspi, in honor of a renowned murguero, where temporary exhibitions, conferences, book presentations, talks, or seminars will take place.

I recently visited the Casa del Carnaval and it is one of the most recommended spaces in Santa Cruz. A true immersion in the Carnival chicharrero. We went with our children and they had a blast with the costumes. I arrived on the tourist train and spent about an hour learning first-hand about the Carnival. The Queen's costume is incredible! I hope to be able to return soon. It is very interesting and fun to be able to dress up and see the representative costumes of our Carnival. Also, to learn the rhythms and instruments used in our folklore and have the opportunity to take a souvenir of our visit made by artisans from our region. Excellent culture, good attractions, joy, and colors around you. A museum jewel. Informative, especially for children. Many hands-on activities for them.
