They are always there to assist you and make you feel like part of the family. Mika, who stayed with us in May 2022, loved chatting with them by the fireplace and during breakfast.

Archibald McLean, the first owner of Greenhill, married a widow named Mrs. Lyons in 1880, and their story adds to the charm of our establishment. The King suite, named after Archibald, offers a spacious and luxurious experience with a bedroom, sitting room, dressing room, open fireplace, and an expansive shower bathroom.
The Sollitt Junior Suite, named after George Sollitt, the architect of Greenhill in 1834, pays homage to the historical significance of our lodge. And let's not forget about Mrs. Hudson, the granddaughter of the original owners, who hosted Queen Elizabeth in 1958. You can stay in the very room where her Majesty slept, adding a touch of royal elegance to your experience.

Right from the the time we drove up the winding, tree-lined driveway through park-like grounds to the grandiose late 19th century built stately manor, all the way through our 24 hour idyllic stay.. everything was just absolutely top notch! "Our stay at Greenhill lodge was the best night we had in NZ. We came across them by chance when frantically googling for same day accomodation before a wedding in the Hawkes Bay and were so pleased that they had space for us. Steve and Charlotte are so hospitable and it was such a dreamy stay. I’ve never stayed in a BnB before and was a bit nervous that it wouldn’t feel private but Greenhill really feels like a chic hotel and Steve and Charlotte live in a very seperate area to the guests. The home itself is beautifully decorated, with lovely toiletries, coffee making, ironing board etc in your room. The beds are super comfortable and the house is so quiet so you will have a wonderful sleep. You get to choose a welcome bottle of wine from their fantastic collection and the breakfast was outstanding. It’s such a beautiful spot to enjoy a glass of wine, you can even do so in their lovely hot tub, or wander the gardens and visit the alpacas. They have a wonderful collection of cats and dogs who are also charming to say hello to! I would say you need a car to stay here, and then you can go and explore all that Hawkes bay has to offer. We hope to return soon."

"John and Jennifer ran a fabulous gem of a lodge. It is a five star lodge in a rural area. The rooms are clean, well stocked and lovely. There were lots of amenities. Breakfast and lunch were prepared by the owner, a trained chef, and were delicious. If you are coming to see Hawkes Bay, this is the place you want to stay- fabulous."
