Each child at Te Mata Kindergarten has their own individual learning plan, which is developed and evaluated in partnership with their whānau (family). Our teachers intentionally use the child's interests and strengths to extend their learning and help them achieve their goals. This personalized approach ensures that every child receives the support they need to thrive.
We are proud to say that our graduates successfully transition to any of the local Havelock North schools, and Te Mata Kindergarten is highly regarded in the educational community. One of the highlights of Te Mata Kindergarten is our large and attractive natural outdoor environment. Our playground is designed to encourage tamariki to develop their large motor skills, which in turn supports their early literacy and numeracy development. We believe that connecting with nature is essential for children's overall well-being and learning.
Tamariki's learning at Te Mata Kindergarten is further supported by our unique kindergarten contract, which promotes successful social interactions. We highly value kindness, respect, manaakitanga (hospitality), and whanaungatanga (relationships). Sharing and caring for each other and the natural world creates a safe and happy environment for tamariki to play and grow.
We understand the importance of building strong relationships between teachers, tamariki, and whānau. We believe in developing a partnership for learning together, known as Ako and Whanaungatanga. Our teachers respond to the varied strengths, interests, and needs of individuals and groups of learners. We promote a collaborative, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that fosters trust, respect, and cooperation.

"Highly recommend Te Mata Kindergarten. Beautiful area, equipment and resources, all in top condition and maintained perfectly. The teachers are incredible, they go above and beyond, clearly work so hard and put in so much effort and they genuinely care. They are all friendly and welcoming and truly lovely warm people. There is a lot of both learning and fun that happens here. I am constantly impressed by what this Kindergarten does each day - fabulous activities both indoors and outdoors, so much creativeness - always something new and interesting, neat games, stories, songs, and during our time a visit from a magician and a puppet show which the children loved. There is always something awesome going on. The children are all very smiley and happy here. So thrilled we were able to have our child attend Te Mata Kindergarten.
