Welcome to Dr Jim Depree, Counselling Consultant, located at Napier, Madeira Road, 2. As a highly experienced and qualified professional, I offer a wide range of counselling services to individuals, couples, and families in New Zealand.

With a doctorate in couple counselling and a Masters degree in counselling, I have been dedicated to helping people navigate through their challenges and find solutions since 1980. My journey began as a Residential Social Worker, where I worked closely with teenagers, providing them with the support and guidance they needed during a crucial stage of their lives.

Over the years, I have honed my skills and expanded my expertise in various roles, including Social Worker, Senior Social Worker, Community Social Worker, Trainer, Family Therapist, and individual counsellor. My dedication to the field has led me to present at several universities and conferences, where I have shared my knowledge and experiences. Furthermore, I am proud to have my work published in esteemed social work and counselling texts.

As a member of the New Zealand Association of Counsellors, I am committed to upholding the highest standards of professional practice. I believe in the importance of respecting and acknowledging the indigenous people of the area, and I extend my greetings to the tāngata whenua o te rohe nei.

In my counselling approach, I specialize in Narrative Therapy. I strive to empower my clients by helping them recognize their own wisdom and strengths, while also assisting them in developing their preferred ways of coping and working through challenges. Additionally, I offer supervision services, providing support and guidance to professionals in the field when faced with ethical dilemmas.

In addition to counselling and supervision, I also provide training in Narrative Therapy and deconstruction. These workshops can be tailored to meet the specific needs of your organization, ensuring that your team gains the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively support individuals and families.
