"Terrific intimate little cinema that shows art house movies"
"We've just returned from a horrible experience at the Metro cinema. We had had a hard time finding the place, taking 20 minutes instead of the six as per Google maps. Once we arrived at the cinema, a very nice woman held one door and I held the other, as my husband drove his mobility scooter into a tiny lobby for this small cinema. We asked if the cinema was scooter-friendly and the man behind the counter scowled, "Go out the door to the theatre entrance." We looked at each other, then the man, expecting him to say, 'Two tickets?' Instead, he tersely said, "The theatre entrance." I looked at my husband and asked if he was okay with that and he said he was, but I wasn't sure if he was okay or not. Even so, I asked for two tickets and put my U.S. credit card in the machine. It declined, so I got another card out. Meanwhile, the man growled, "We only take Kiwi cards or cash here." I put the cards away and my husband said we'd never had that problem before." The man smirked and said, "Well, you have now." We left. So, is it true that Kiwi businesses in a tourist town can ask only for NZ cards or cash? We've travelled around the world - twice - and never had a card declined before. We've also lived here for nearly a year, with no trouble. Or, was the man being discriminatory? If so, on what grounds - tourists (I have a Brit accent, but am a Kiwi), or, as I suspect, disability? He was unpleasant to us as soon as he saw my husband on a mobility scooter. If we could have given zero stars, we would have."
