Welcome to The Plaza Theatre, South Waikato’s premium performing arts centre. Located at 50 Kensington Street in Putaruru, our newly renovated proscenium arch theatre is a must-visit establishment and a point of interest in the area.
At The Plaza Theatre, we pride ourselves on providing a top-notch venue for a variety of events. Whether you're planning a small gathering or a large-scale production, our theatre is available for hire. With a 9-bar fly tower, ample parking, and full wheelchair access, we strive to accommodate all of your needs. Our excellent dressing rooms/studio, complete with kitchen and showering facilities, ensure that performers have everything they need to prepare for their shows. The theatre is equipped with gas heating, retractable seats that reveal a large floor, and the best acoustics you've heard in years. We guarantee that your event will be a success in our exceptional space.
In addition to hosting events, The Plaza Theatre is also involved in community initiatives. We are proud to support the Putaruru Business & Community Awards 2023, presented by Pride in Putaruru. Nominations for the awards are still open, so don't miss the opportunity to recognize your favorite business or community group. If you're looking for entertainment, we have exciting movie screenings lined up for September. Our Sunday movie feature is "Book Club: The Next Chapter," a heartwarming film about four best friends who embark on a fun girls trip to Italy. As their vacation takes unexpected turns and secrets are revealed, their adventure becomes unforgettable. Rated M, the movie runs for 1 hour and 47 minutes. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students.
For families, we have a special school holiday movie, "Mavka: The Forest Song." This enchanting film tells the story of Mavka, a young forest spirit who falls in love with a human musician. As she faces a difficult choice between love and her duty, their journey unfolds before your eyes. The movie has a runtime of 1 hour and 30 minutes, and tickets are priced at $5 per entry.
We are also excited to announce that Bluelight is bringing a free movie event to the community. "ELEMENTAL" is a captivating film set in a city where residents of fire, water, land, and air live together. Join us for this heartwarming story of two individuals who discover their shared humanity. The movie runs for 1 hour and 42 minutes and admission is free. We'll even provide free snacks and drinks, thanks to the sponsorship of Kbeez Putaruru.
For fitness enthusiasts, The Plaza Theatre is hosting the 2023 NZIFBB Waikato Regional Champs on September 30th. This event serves as a qualifier for the NZ Nationals 2023 and showcases various categories, including Women's Physique, Classic Physique, Fitness Figure, Men's Bodybuilding, Bikini, Men's Physique, and Wellness. General admission tickets for the Waikato Regional Champs are priced at 50 NZD.
Lastly, we are thrilled to present the Legacy Touring show, "Keith Potger's Celebrating The Seekers." This solo tribute by Keith Potger, one of the founding members of The Seekers, commemorates the group's 60 years of success from 1963 to 2022. The show features a delightful combination of songs, stories, and rare footage that shaped The Seekers' rise to international fame. Don't miss this audio-visual treat, where you'll experience the magic of Keith's 12-string guitar, which played a pivotal role in defining their sound.
