Welcome to Sydenham Botanic Park, located in the heart of Tauranga, New Zealand. Situated on 3 hectares of land in the charming suburb of Brookfield, our park is conveniently positioned opposite the Brookfield Shopping Centre, making it easily accessible for both locals and tourists alike.
At Sydenham Botanic Park, we take pride in our world-class collection of Kauri trees, boasting an impressive array of 14 different species. These majestic trees, along with other exotic specimen trees, create a serene and enchanting atmosphere that is sure to captivate visitors of all ages.
The park's history is deeply rooted in the generosity of the late Frank Sydenham, a trailblazer in the field of horticulture. As one of the first ever Massey University students to graduate with a Masters Degree in Horticulture, Frank's passion for plants and nature led him to become a renowned market gardener. He dedicated his life to producing bountiful fruit and vibrant flowers on this very property.
Today, Sydenham Botanic Park stands as a testament to Frank's legacy, as the community comes together to develop this land into a botanic park with a subtropical emphasis and open grass spaces. Our goal is to enhance the natural beauty of our surroundings and create a lasting heritage for future generations to enjoy.

The main attraction of note however is the brilliant collection of Araucaria and Agathis (Kauri) species including numerous examples from New Caledonia and the Pacific Islands. I highly recommend anyone with an interest Araucariaceae or in botany in general pay a visit."
