Welcome to Jolin Shanghai Restaurant, a must-visit establishment located at 248 Dominion Road, Mount Eden, Auckland, New Zealand. As a renowned Asian and Chinese cuisine restaurant, Jolin Shanghai Restaurant offers a delightful dining experience that combines friendly service, lovely interior decor, and fast serving time.
At Jolin Shanghai Restaurant, you can indulge in a variety of mouth-watering dishes from their online menu. Whether you choose to dine in or opt for takeaway, you can conveniently place your order online and enjoy secure online payments.
One of the highlights of Jolin Shanghai Restaurant is their delectable Steamed Xiao-Long Pork Buns (8pcs) and Fried Sheng-Jian Pork Buns (8pcs). These authentic Shanghai delicacies are sure to leave your taste buds craving for more.
Customers have praised the restaurant for its decent prices and generous portion sizes. The Sizzling Beef, with its visually appealing presentation and enticing pepper aroma, features tender vegetables and chewy beef. It is a dish that bursts with flavor and can be enjoyed on its own without the need for rice.
Another favorite is the Salted Duck, which strikes the perfect balance of saltiness and tenderness. The Fried Bread, although crispy, is noted to be slightly thicker and bread-like for some palates. Pair it with their average yet satisfying sweet soybean milk for a delightful combination.
Reviews also highlight the delicious Beans, which emit a strong aroma and are accompanied by a fabulous mixture. The Chicken in the dish is flavorful and not bland, receiving high praise from customers. The Meatball Soup, with its fresh watery soup flavor and tender meatballs, is a delightful treat that comes highly recommended.
When it comes to the Steamed Buns, customers rave about the hot juice, the savory-sweet blend, and the succulent meat. The bun itself does not overpower the flavors, making it a well-balanced dish. The Fried Bun, filled with a similar soup to the steamed buns but in a smaller amount, offers a crispy bottom topped with sesame for an added crunch.
Customers familiar with Shanghai cuisine have found Jolin Shanghai Restaurant to be authentic and satisfying. The Wontons are praised for their meatiness and the calm seaweed flavor of the broth. While the Xiao Long Bao is not as soupy or large as expected, the flavor is still enjoyable. The Fried Pork Bao, on the other hand, is juicier and more favorable compared to the Xiao Long Bao.
Although the service at dumpling eateries is not the main highlight, Jolin Shanghai Restaurant has made it onto the "must-try" list for many. Their steamed and fried dumplings receive equal ratings, and the deep-fried shrimps offer an interesting twist. The Pork Noodles are also highly recommended.
However, with a wide selection of dumpling restaurants available, the chances of revisiting Jolin Shanghai Restaurant may be slim for some. A couple of years later, some customers found the Spicy Pork Noodles to lack spice and flavor until they added soy/chili sauce mix. The shrimps, unfortunately, did not live up to their initial experience due to excessive oil. The noise level in the restaurant during peak hours was also a distraction for some diners.
Despite these minor setbacks, Jolin Shanghai Restaurant is widely regarded as the best traditional Shanghai restaurant in New Zealand. With loyal customers visiting on a weekly basis, even the chef's own mother agrees that it offers an exceptional dining experience. So come and indulge in the flavors of Shanghai at Jolin Shanghai Restaurant.

"The best traditional Shanghai restaurant in New Zealand. I have been there every week since I moved to New Zealand. Even my mom agreed that! She is the best chef I have ever known."
"Came here for lunch sometime ago. Was pretty quiet on this day. The restaurant was pleasant and sitting was comfortable. However on this day an elderly lady was serving us. She was not able to speak English and needed the man inside the kitchen to come and take our order. Presumably he was the cook. Except for the duck dish the others were reasonably eatable. The duck dish was not good at all. The meat was so hard. I could not even chew it. This dish is definitely not recommended. If you are keen to try I strongly advise that you order freshly cooked dishes and not ready made cold dishes."
"Friendly service, lovely interior decor and lighting with ultra fast serving time, decent prices and portion sizes! Sizzling beef came out very prettily, strong pepper smell. Tender vegetables and chewy beef-not the softest but definitely not tough by all means. Just the right amount of flavor without needs for accompanying with rice. 7.5/10 Salted duck not too salty just right, tender meat. Pretty tasty and needn't accompany with rice. 8/10 Fried bread crisp upon bite but I find it a bit too thick and bread like for my taste. Had it with the sweet soy bean milk which was average, just your run-of-the-mill sweet Soy. 6/10 Beans had a very strong when brought over and smelt delicious. The mixture accompanying the beans were fabulous and chicken was good as it contained flavor and was not bland. 8/10 Meatball soup fresh watery soup flavor, the meatball was extremely tender and falls apart when spooned, taste was delightful, recommend! 8.5/10 Steamed buns juice was hot, the perfect blend of savory and sweet, the meat soft and succulent and the wrap in no way overpowers the taste of the bun. 8.5/10 Fried bun filled with similar soup to the steamed buns but less amount, pork filling was again succulent. This time the bun amount was more but that's a given for the type of bun it is. The bottom is crispy and topped with sesame and added a lovely crunch to the bun. 8/10"
"Well let's face it, we don't go to dumpling eateries for the service. I came here because it was on a 'must-try' list. We tried both the steamed and fried dumplings which I rated pretty equally at a 7/10. The deep fried shrimps were interesting.. in a good way. Pork noodles were great. I might go back to taste other dishes but with so many dumpling restaurants out there chances are slim. UPDATE. A couple of years later we're back. Spicy pork noodles had slight to no spice, and tasted pretty meh until we added some soy/chili sauce mix. We tend to try the same dishes if we like them so had the shrimps again. Not as good as the first time there was too much oil. For the first time in a long time I wasn't able to finish the dish because of it. We did arrive for a late dinner and it was packed. It was so noisy it was distracting. Nothing could be done but it makes me wonder why people insist on shouting in such a small room."
"First time trying here. Coming from a Shanghai background, I am familiar with the Shanghai food taste. The wonton here are pretty good, meaty and the broth is a calm seaweed flavour. The xiao long bao I think is just ok, not soupy enough and not that big, but the flavour is not bad. The fried pork bao on other hand was more juicy and better than the xiao long bao. Overall pretty good, although I want to try their sweet and sour fried whole blue cod in a bigger group. Also would like to try a few of their cold dishes as well."
