Welcome to Wellington Goju Ryu Karate, located at 55 Stoke Street in Wellington, New Zealand. Our institution is an establishment that focuses on health and is a point of interest for karate enthusiasts. We take pride in having a team of accredited Black Belt instructors, all affiliated with the International Okinawan Goju Ryu Karate-do Federation (IOGKF).

At Wellington Karate, we offer a variety of classes for students of all ages and skill levels. Whether you are a beginner or have previous experience, our classes are designed to help you learn new skills, develop physically and mentally, and be challenged in a controlled and safe environment. We believe that by training in karate, individuals can become better equipped to handle everyday life situations.

As a not-for-profit organization, our focus is on providing high-quality training rather than commercial gain. This allows us to offer affordable fees and prioritize the values of traditional karate, such as building good character, strength, fitness, and agility. We also emphasize the practical application of techniques for self-defense.

Many of our students use karate training as a method of cross-training to enhance their performance in other sports, while others see it as a regular fitness and conditioning routine. Our instructors, who have trained under the IOGKF, have had the privilege of learning from some of the top international instructors in the world. This exposure has helped produce successful New Zealand Karate representatives who have competed globally.

Our Head Instructor, Rajesh, has a wealth of experience in karate. He began training in 1979 and has achieved high-ranking Dan levels. Rajesh has represented New Zealand in numerous tournaments and has won accolades such as bronze and gold medals in international championships. He has been teaching karate since a young age and has trained and taught at various dojos and training camps throughout New Zealand.

Rajesh's dedication to his own ongoing study of Goju Ryu karate-do is highlighted by his training with top instructors from around the world. In 2015, he attended the Chief Instructors training camp in Okinawa and was awarded 6th Dan under Higaonna Sensei, the IOGKF world Chief Instructor.
