Vinnies
About the Business
Welcome to Vinnies, located in Castlemaine on Barker Street. As an establishment, point of interest, and store, Vinnies is more than just a place to shop. We are proud to be a part of the St Vincent de Paul Society, which offers over 200 services to help people in need.
At Vinnies, we believe in supporting constitutional recognition of Australia’s First Nations peoples, and we are committed to fighting social injustice across the country. Our dedicated team of over 45,000 members and volunteers work tirelessly to assist those in need, both locally and internationally. In fact, the St Vincent de Paul Society operates in 153 countries and has over 800,000 members worldwide.
When families struggle to make ends meet, Vinnies is here to provide practical support and ease the pressure. By shopping with us, you are giving Australians facing poverty another choice. Our mission is rooted in loyalty, respect, and inclusivity. We welcome and serve everyone, regardless of their background, creed, or political opinions.
We are proud to be a nominating organization for the Australian Government's School Student Broadband Initiative (SSBI), and we actively speak out against the causes of poverty and inequality on behalf of the people we serve.
We have countless success stories, like Samantha, who turned her life around with a helping hand from Vinnies, and J, who found support after being injured and retrenched from his job. D also found comfort in Vinnies after losing her job for the first time at the age of 64.
As a lay Catholic organization, we strive to create a more just and compassionate society. We acknowledge that we are on Aboriginal land and pay our respects to all traditional custodians. Please note that this website may contain images of deceased members of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community, which are used with the utmost respect and appreciation.
We are always looking for motivated, community-minded individuals to get involved in our programs, events, and services nationwide. Together, we can make a difference and give hope for a brighter future.

"Lovely store with a great selection of preloved vintage pieces easy parking"
"Clean and tidy shop Always a good selection of products and clothing"
"Colour sorted clothing, at reasonable prices for some, and very over priced for others. I looked at at a woollen/polyester coat which had pilling on sleeves and front, and was missing a button. It was $40. Books are priced realistically. Linen and tablecloths are priced at almost what you'd pay for new. Some sheets were $5 and some $20. Varies dramatically each time I visit. Limited amount of children's clothing available. Some kitchen utensils and crockery were cheap, but $2 for an egg cup was more than I was prepared to pay. Staff are friendly. I visit regularly. Sometimes there are great finds, and on other occasions not much that I can afford or want. Typical of most op-shops I guess. It's well stocked on most days."
"I made a weird noise by accident when I walked in, three years ago, and I have never been back. My cousin Geoffrey says it's quite beautiful. He has a cat."
"I bought a pyrex coffee percolator today which had the lid taped to the body. After I returned home I discovered the lid lug to be sheared off. No mention was made that it was damaged and it was certainly priced high enough that you'd expect it to be perfect."
