Welcome to Zenshin Martial Arts, a premier multidisciplinary martial arts training centre located in Ballarat Central, Curtis Street, 50, Geelong, Victoria. As an establishment focused on health and well-being, we are proud to be a point of interest for both adults and kids seeking to embark on a journey of self-improvement through the practice of martial arts.

At Zenshin Martial Arts, we offer a comprehensive range of training programs that cater to individuals of all ages and skill levels. Our curriculum encompasses traditional martial arts, contemporary martial arts, cardiovascular training, Black Belt training, and much more. With a team of highly qualified instructors, including our esteemed founder, Hanshi Mervyn Nelis, who is recognized by the Australasian Hall of Fame and World Karate Union Hall of Fame, we strive to provide systematic, highly focused, and structured training to our students.

Hanshi Nelis, with over 50 years of experience in self-defense systems, has a rich background in various martial arts disciplines. From his early teenage years in wrestling, boxing, and ju jitsu, Hanshi eventually dedicated himself to the study of karate. Throughout his journey, he has traveled extensively overseas to broaden his knowledge base and has been involved in extensive security work as a crowd controller and security specialist instructor for over four decades.

Recognized for his exceptional contributions to the martial arts community, Hanshi was inducted into the Australian Hall of Fame and World Karate Union Hall of Fame in 2003. His dedication and expertise led to his promotion to 7th Degree Black Belt by this prestigious organization in 2004, and further promotion to 8th Degree Black Belt in 2013.

In addition to his expertise in karate, Hanshi has also undergone extensive training in the Krav Maga Israeli Self Defence System and CDT Tactical Non-Deadly Self Defence System, reaching Instructor Level. He has developed a practical Self Defence System called LIFESAFE, which is taught at Secondary Schools and Women’s Self Defence courses.
