Our facility boasts a state-of-the-art arena, with a portion of it covered for all-weather treatment, as well as covered stalls. This setup is perfect for horse and rider combination treatments, as we can closely observe you and your horse while you ride together.

Our esteemed physiotherapist, Kath Long, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to EquinePhysioNZ. Having qualified as a NZ registered physiotherapist in 1984, Kath has since completed her Advanced Diploma in Physiotherapy and joined the Register for Physiotherapy Acupuncturists. In 2008, she obtained her Diploma in Equine Acupuncture and has been successfully treating horses for musculoskeletal issues, pain, poor performance, and general well-being ever since.

Kath further enhanced her knowledge by completing her Masters' Degree in Veterinary Physiotherapy through the esteemed University of Liverpool. Her groundbreaking research project focused on studying the effect of a manual therapy technique called traction on pain levels in a group of horses with clinical signs of back pain, which has been published and widely recognized.

With over 30 years of experience as a human and veterinary physiotherapist, Kath excels in effective communication and understands the importance of client/owner education. She believes in the significance of comprehending the functional problem at hand, the rationale behind the chosen treatment, the goals to be achieved, and providing measurable changes for the owner to witness.

Kath's client base includes horses from all disciplines, ranging from leisurely "happy hackers" to more competitive riders. In addition to her work at EquinePhysioNZ, Kath is also the director of RiderRehab, where she assesses riders both on the ground and while riding. By utilizing video footage, riders can witness the impact of their riding on their horse's response. Physiotherapy and RiderRehab services are offered either at our purpose-built facility and covered arena on Fordyce Road, South Head, or by arrangement, Kath can travel to your property or chosen facility.
