Pipitea Childcare Centre
About the Business
Welcome to Pipitea Childcare Centre! We are a small non-profit, parent-kaiako childcare cooperative located in Thorndon, Wellington. Our establishment is situated at 21 Hobson Crescent, offering a convenient and accessible location for families in the area.
At Pipitea Childcare Centre, our primary goal is to provide a safe, caring, and stimulating learning environment for all tamariki (children) in our care. We understand the importance of creating a space that feels like a home away from home, where children can thrive and develop to their full potential.
Our vision is to foster curious, compassionate, and resilient learners who are confident in themselves, their abilities, and their relationships with others, places, and things. We believe that by instilling a love for learning and nurturing their natural curiosity, we are setting our tamariki up for success in their future endeavors.
As a parent-kaiako cooperative, we strongly believe in the active and inclusive involvement of whānau (family) in the life and running of Pipitea. We value the relationships between our whānau and our kaiako (teachers), as they form the backbone of our close-knit community. Together, we create a supportive and collaborative environment that benefits both the children and their families.
To ensure the highest quality of care, we maintain a tamaiti:kaiako (child:teacher) ratio of 1:3 for our under twos, and 1:6 for our over twos. This allows us to provide individual attention and personalized care to each child, fostering their development in a nurturing and attentive setting. Additionally, we consistently exceed the Ministry of Education's requirement that at least 80% of our kaiako are qualified and registered early childhood educators, ensuring that our tamariki are in the best hands.
Nutrition is a priority for us, and we provide homemade nutritious kai (lunch, morning tea, and afternoon tea) for all our tamariki. We believe that healthy eating habits are essential for their overall well-being and development.
We understand the demands of modern-day life, which is why we offer flexible operating hours. Pipitea Childcare Centre is open from 7.45am to 5.45pm, accommodating the needs of working parents. We cater to tamariki aged approximately 6 months to 5 years, providing a nurturing and enriching environment for their early years.
To ensure a close-knit community and personalized care, we have a maximum daily role of 29 tamariki, with a maximum of ten under twos. We encourage regular attendance, with a minimum requirement of three days a week, allowing children to form strong relationships with their peers and kaiako.
At Pipitea Childcare Centre, we strive to provide a holistic and enriching experience for our tamariki, fostering their growth and development in a safe and loving environment. We invite you to join our community and be a part of your child's educational journey. Contact us today to learn more or to arrange a visit to our centre.

Reviews
"My toddler loves attending Pipitea and I highly recommend it to other parents. The teachers are amazing and create a fun and caring environment for the kids."
"We send our daughter to Pipitea Childcare Centre and have only positive words to say about it. All the teachers and staff are so loving and committed and they go above and beyond every day for all the tamariki in their care. The parent teacher co-operative element of Pipitea is really special because it means all the families are committed to participating in the life of the centre. Our daughter absolutely adores her time there (it's a major struggle to get her to leave every day!) and we feel really lucky to be a part of Pipitea."
