Allow us to introduce our dedicated team. Paula Brocklehurst graduated from Massey University in 1995 and has extensive experience working as a companion animal vet in South Auckland. Her passion for veterinary care led her to practice ownership, and she now regularly works at Hibiscus Coast while occasionally filling in at our other branches. When she's not at work, Paula can be found riding her horses, playing ice hockey, or exploring the outdoors on her mountain bike.
Mikaela, who graduated from Massey University in 2020, began her veterinary career in the Manawatu region. While initially working with horses, she now focuses on her greatest interest: caring for cats and dogs at Hibiscus Coast Veterinary Hospital and Albany. In her free time, Mikaela enjoys running, hiking, training her dogs, and showcasing her talent for pet portraits on her Instagram account, @mikaelanipperart.
Nick, originally from the UK, joined our team in 2006. Prior to that, he was a senior Partner of a 6 Vet Mixed Practice in Devon, England, which he established in 1985. Nick brings a wealth of experience and enjoys the challenges of small animal veterinary work. He keeps up-to-date with the latest techniques and treatments and also utilizes alternative treatments when appropriate. In his spare time, Nick pursues his passion for photography as a keen club photographer. Please note that Nick now works with us on Fridays and Saturdays only.
Debra, our clinic manager, has been part of the Veterinary Hospital Group since 2008. She obtained her Diploma in Veterinary Nursing from Unitec and joined us after working at Vets at Animates Silverdale. Debra has a passion for cake decorating and photography, and she is an invaluable member of our team.
Last but not least, meet our newest team member. Having moved to New Zealand from South Africa in 2013, she now resides in Stanmore Bay with her husband, chunky ginger cat Rascal, and huntaway x Ruby. With a deep love for all animals, including the scaly ones, she joined the Veterinary Hospital Group in October 2020. In her free time, she enjoys outdoor activities such as mountain biking, farm visits, and beach outings with friends.
At Hibiscus Coast Veterinary Hospital, we are committed to providing exceptional veterinary care and building lasting relationships with our clients and their pets. If you have any questions or require further information, please fill out the form below, and our team will be happy to assist you.

"Took our beloved 16 year old cat Pepsi to see Nick for the first time. He was quick to diagnose that he was in severe renal failure. Sadly this meant that it was time for us to say goodbye to him. We are eternally grateful for the compassion and care we received from him and all his staff during a very difficult time. His genuine empathy will forever be etched in our memory and cannot thank the whole team enough."
"The veterinary surgeon, held my dogs hearts and saved Gizmos life more than once, he gave Gizmo 200% of his wonderful caring ways. Gizmo was a very sick dog from birth and was so, so lucky to have Nick for his vet, as he saved Gizmos life more than once. He had high blood pressure, had all his teeth removed at one year old due to another disease. Luckily Gizmo was a happy dog and remained always happy for Nick. He was diagnosed with many faults but managed to live until he was twelve years old. He was my ‘heart’. He died peacefully in my arms after a final injection from Nick who agreed it was the right thing to do. I still miss him and luv him and always will. BUT WE WILL MEET AGAIN,when it’s my turn. Yoda also misses him but not as much as I do (plus now he’s ‘topdog’ he thinks he’s allowed to do what he wants (No he’s not). Thank you Nick from the bottom of my heart from r taking such great care of Gizmo, I guess you probably miss our visits too, but we’ll see you soon when I bring Yoda in to see you. Thank you for being you from the bottom of my heart Patricia Burgess ❤️❤️"
"Nick and Debra are incredibly caring and amazing at what they do. I trust them implicitly with all of our pets, and they understand how they’re not just our pets but family members too. Easily the best veterinary clinic in Auckland, they are always so lovely and go the extra mile to give our pets the best care, wouldn’t go anywhere else!"
"This is Gizmo when I first brought him home, I fell in love the first time we met. He owes his life to Nick and the staff. He has an auto immune disease, a heart murmur, high blood pressure and he’s has had pneumonia three times and almost died but he’s a fighter, at 1 year old he had all his teeth removed to stop the auto immune disease from giving him ulcers throughout his mouth and throat. I fed him on chicken soup for two to three weeks and he slowly recovered. Thanks to Hibiscus Coast staff and Nick my dog may reach twelve years of age in Sept 2020, here’s hoping."
"Moved to Nick the Vet a couple of years ago and have been really impressed with his service. Looked after our grand old Bullmastiff Smidge so well before she recently peacefully passed away. Nick's practice and staff are so friendly and helpful."
