Queen Margaret College
About the Business
Welcome to Queen Margaret College, located at 53 Hobson Street in Wellington, New Zealand. As an establishment, point of interest, and school, we are dedicated to building inquisitive girls who are prepared to make change in the world.
In today's connected world, it is crucial to equip our students with the right tools to navigate and effect change. At Queen Margaret College, our learners are at the heart of every decision we make. We cultivate a holistic environment that encourages questioning, collaboration, and participation.
We understand the importance of responding to changes in education, which is why we have elevated our Year 11 offering to best suit the needs of our students. Starting in 2024, we are introducing a learning program that empowers students to gain a full NCEA Level 1 qualification while also better preparing them for NCEA Level 2 Certificate and the IB Diploma.
For families whose children are moving into Year 1, we invite you to our "Transitioning into Year 1" information sessions. Join us to explore our Junior School and hear from our Head of Junior School on how you can prepare your daughter and yourselves for this important transition.
Come and visit the Queendom, where students open the door to endless possibilities. During our Tuesday Tour, you will have the opportunity to tour the College guided by our student ambassadors, see the classrooms, talk with our educators and key staff members, and have your questions answered over morning tea. Book your tour now to explore life at QMC.
At Queen Margaret College, we offer a range of scholarships to support and progress students across various areas, including Academia, Sports, STEM, and the Arts. We also have the Tangata Whenua and Tangata o le Moana Scholarships, which promote opportunities for Māori and Pacific students in a culturally inclusive college, encouraging young learners to develop skills and confidence.
Our students are actively involved in making a difference in the community. For example, our student-led initiative "Give FIVE for the Floods" raised over $7000 for the victims of Cyclone Gabrielle. We also have students like Divya Srinivasa supporting our elderly community and Alice Simpson supporting children in Wellington Children's Hospital.
We are proud of the achievements of our students, such as Senali Vasanthathilake being named as a finalist in the Global YRE Competition and Maia Mariner being recognized by Her Majesty The Queen for her Community Project "Lazy Sneakers".
We invite you to get to know us better by spending the day, speaking with our current parents, or enjoying a more personalized experience with a private tour. Queen Margaret College is committed to providing a nurturing and empowering educational environment for our students. Join us in building a brighter future for the next generation.

"I have 3 daughters at Queen Margaret College and have been part of the school for a number of years. It is an exceptional school where staff are highly qualified and dedicated to getting the best out of the students. The school places a strong emphasis on wellbeing and not purely on academic achievement. The school recognises the importance of nurturing well-rounded individuals, and therefore offers a wide range of co-curricular activities. Whether it's participating in sports, music, arts, or community service, there is something for every student to explore. For me the great thing about QMC is that it's not a cookie cutter school. There is a recognition that girls may need support in learning or mental health. For example learning support is offered for those who may need additional assistance academically and psychologists are on-site for those who need support with their wellbeing. As well, you don't have to be a top sports person as social teams are also offered for those keen to have fun with friends. QMC has a real commitment to the holistic development of the girls and I have always felt the staff were accessible and very open to finding solutions to any issues that arise."
"My daughter goes here and seems completely happy and not pressured at all, she finds it is a fun and caring environment and the school is its strong emphasis on academic achievement, sport and other areas. You are indeed lucky if you get the chance to be educated here!!"
"Exceptional Learning Experience For diplomatic and military families like ours, or anyone in need of a top-quality education, Queen Margaret College is an excellent choice. The advantage of being an IB World School is that QMC follows a globally recognised curriculum. No matter where our postings take us, we know our children's education will maintain its consistency and high standard. QMC's academic prowess is top-notch. The teachers are outstanding, incredibly supportive, and proficient. They foster an intellectually stimulating environment that motivates students to strive for academic excellence. The variety of subjects offered ensures students receive a well-rounded education, preparing them well for the future. Our experience with QMC has been fantastic, and we wholeheartedly recommend it to other families. The school offers not only an academically challenging environment but also a warm, welcoming community that makes you feel at home, no matter where you're from."
"I am 3rd generation Samuel Marsden Collegiate (in Karori) so one would have expected us to be at Marsden, but I have my daughter at Queen Margaret College, and it was the best decision! She loves it. QMC is outstanding! Quality education and amazing staff. Green turns to blue!"
