Wellington Community Centre

Welcome to the Wellington Community Centre, located at 105 Manners Street in Wellington, New Zealand. As the oldest and largest youth organization in the world, we have evolved from the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) to become a more inclusive and diverse institution. We stand behind all individuals, regardless of their gender, race, religion, or sexuality, and strive to create a welcoming and supportive environment for everyone.

At Te Pokapū Hapori, our main goal is to provide a safe and inclusive space for the diverse communities of Wellington to belong. This is a place where people can socialize, play, study, create, and be active. We believe in investing in the next generation and are committed to building strong kids, strong families, and strong communities.

Te Pokapū Hapori is a result of a partnership between the Y and the Wellington City Council. It is the new inner-city community center that will offer a wide range of programs and services. Additionally, we will manage the Youth Hub, which will open later in the year once we secure an appropriate venue. By integrating these two facilities, we aim to provide even greater benefits to the community.

Both Te Pokapū Hapori and the Youth Hub are key initiatives of the Pōneke Promise, a community-driven partnership that aims to promote a safer, more vibrant, and welcoming central city. Our vision for Te Pokapū Hapori is to create a space where people can belong, connect, and find the support they need. It can be their extended living room or their third place, where they can access the hub and participate in various ongoing activities. We will also offer targeted programs under the themes of 'active', 'create', and 'life skills'. These programs will evolve based on insights and feedback from the local community and in collaboration with local community providers.

We are proud to showcase the beautiful mural, He Raukura te Pā o Te Aro - Reweti Arapere, specially designed for Te Pokapū Hapori. It represents our commitment to creating a safe space where individuals can be themselves and feel a sense of belonging.

With our various locations throughout the region, such as YMCA Pilmuir Accommodation, YMCA Upper Hutt, and YMCA Kaitoke Outdoor Education Centre, we are committed to providing safe spaces for those in need and contributing to positive social and emotional well-being in our communities.
