In addition to our cultural events, we also host exciting community initiatives. Join us on Saturday 2 September at the Aeroglen Dog Park for our Dog Adoption Day, where you may find a new furry friend to bring home. Furthermore, the Trash to Treasure Fair will be held on the same day at the Buy Back Shop in Portsmith, offering a wonderful opportunity to discover unique treasures while supporting sustainable practices.
While we regret to inform you that the Cairns Festival Grand Parade will not be rescheduled this year, we continue to strive to provide engaging and memorable experiences for our visitors. As a testament to our commitment to honoring individuals who have made significant contributions to our community, we are considering naming the pavilion in Norman Park, Gordonvale after the late Stan Marsh.
At Salli And John Mitchell Memorial Park, we also prioritize environmental sustainability. We recently launched Clean Up Cairns, a campaign dedicated to maintaining the cleanliness and beauty of our city streets. During the launch, we collected a staggering 10,350 cigarette butts from three streets, highlighting the importance of responsible waste disposal.
As we celebrate the rich history and heritage of our region, we acknowledge and pay our respects to the Traditional Custodians of our land, including the Djabugay, Yirrganydji, Buluwai, Gimuy Walubara Yidinji, Mandingalbay Yidinji, Gunggandji, Dulabed and Malanbara Yidinji, Bundabarra and Wadjanbarra Yidinji, Wanyurr Majay, Mamu, and NgadjonJii peoples. "1,000 metre tall Mount Williams makes a spectacular back drop to this park. Decent all ages playground, basketball half court and adult gym equipment under shade cloth. Also seating. New trees have been planted so will soon give more shade. There is a water tap and drinking fountain here too."
"Has everything you need for a good playground session. There was definitely a few misfits that visit the park, which was evident by the quantity of broken glass. This is my first time visiting....so this might be what it's like all the time. Equipment in good condition, plenty of space for exploring. Will go again!"
"Big open park, green grass, picnic tables and shade tops. On the other side of the path there's a gym equipment area. Little creek that runs at the bottom of the park. Only 4 parking spaces. But you can parking the Redlynch College side, plenty of parking."
"Good place to take young children to play on swings and slides. There is also a half court basketball court. As well as outdoor gym equipment there."
"Good accessible exercise equipment, and kids playground. Both area's under shade-cloth protection. Now with a good size 1/2 court basketball court, in its own area on the hill."
