Hotel Tropiq 179 Sheridan Street, Cairns North, Queensland 4870

"Is it luxurious? No. A good value? I guess, yes it is for the area. Hotel Tropiq is a mixed bag. We came here because every single non-hostel hotel had been booked up or priced at an insane amount. One thing I think that’s worth noting is that a lot of the hotels in Cairns kinda suck. We visited at the same time as a lot of other people we know and unless you’re willing to foot the cost for a nice 4 star hotel, Hotel Tropiq is kind of the standard. We know countless people who found roaches in other hotel rooms in the city, stayed somewhere that looked sketchy, or just didn’t have a good experience at their hotel. All that being said, our bar was set pretty low after reading the reviews and seeing what issues others had locally. But ultimately we had good experience here. The bedding and room was clean. The hotel was quiet. I came in very early in the morning and had no issues checking-in after hours. Tropiq is a short walk or Uber from downtown. Plus the front desk staff gave us suggestions of where to book a reef tour and were really nice. Hotel Tropiq isn’t fancy and even though I think the price is high- it’s in line with hotel prices in Cairnes. Unless you’re going to spend $300-400 a night or stay outside the city you have to manage your expectations. To us, this beat staying in a hostel."

"Beds were on wheels that moved as you get on/off. There were cockroaches around the front area and ants in the bathroom. Bathroom had no lock. Curtain rod almost fell off and curtains had stains and rips. If you wanted your room cleaned, it was a $30 fee. Only saving grace was the convenient location."

"We stayed at Hotel Tropiq while my husband was recuperating from an accident. 5 minute walk to hospital and foreshore. Staff were very kind and helpful. Room was basic but clean and neat. Price very reasonable. Has a great pool! 20 minute walk to centre of town, but some good restaurants and cafes nearby."

"Nicely located, a 20 minute walk to the Esplanade. Although there aren't many parking spots on the premise, there is free unlimited parking just around the corner. The rooms are ok, nothing exceptional, a little small (especially the shower), but they do the job. Be careful if you use the laundry, the coins control the electricity for the machines, if you take too long to select your program after inserting the coins, your program won't have time to finish (and you'll have to go to the reception to sort it out). The staff in general are very nice and helpful."

"Staff were all friendly and helpful, room was very clean, for the price l thought it was good. Area is central and easy parking.I didn't have young kids with me, however, the kids l seen looked as if they were having fun around the pool. I would stay there again. Garden and outside area is well maintained and nice areas to sit outside. The plus for me, bed was comfortable."
