Eswaralaya Kalaikoodam
About the Business
Welcome to Eswaralaya Kalaikoodam, the School of Dance located in Calamvale, Australia. With a rich history dating back to 1981 in Sri Lanka, the school has since moved to New Zealand in 1988 and has been successfully conducting classes in South East Queensland since 2003.
At Eswaralaya Kalaikoodam, we offer dance classes in the Kalakshetra style, which is considered one of the oldest and most respected styles of Indian classical dance. Our classes are conducted at multiple locations, including Calamvale (Southside of Brisbane), Chermside (North side of Brisbane), and Gold Coast.
Over the years, our school has touched the lives of many children, helping them shape their dreams and aspirations of continuing the tradition of Indian classical dance. We believe that the purpose of teaching the arts is not only to teach children to dance and sing but to also cultivate them into cultured and beautiful individuals.
Dance has always held great significance in ancient India, serving as a mode of worship and a path to spiritual salvation. The sacred art of dance is said to have originated from Brahma, the creator in the Hindu Trinity of gods. In India, dance, drama, and music are closely related and intertwined, with each complementing and enhancing the other.
Bharatanatyam, the cultural heritage of Southern India, particularly Tamil Nadu, is one of the main dance forms taught at our institution. It is believed to have derived its name from Bharata Muni himself and encompasses the essential aspects of facial expression, musical notes, and rhythm.
A dancer not only portrays emotions but also expresses ideas through their art. Facial expression, rhythm, and music are integral to Bharatanatyam, with each playing a vital role in the dancer's performance. Bharatanatyam is divided into three distinct categories: 'Nritta' (pure dance), 'Nritya' (fusion of pure dance and facial expression), and 'Natya' (dance dramas).
At Eswaralaya Kalaikoodam, we strive to provide a comprehensive learning experience for our students, allowing them to explore and master the various elements of Bharatanatyam. From the pure joy and ecstasy of 'Nritta' to the intricate combinations of steps and expression in 'Nritya', our classes offer a holistic approach to dance education.
Whether you are a beginner looking to learn the basics or an experienced dancer seeking to refine your skills, Eswaralaya Kalaikoodam welcomes you to join our vibrant dance community. Come and discover the beauty and grace of Indian classical dance while embracing the rich cultural heritage it represents.
