"Even if you live on residency, you will have to drive around for at least 15 mins just to find a park, and if your late for a class and forget to click a button on the CelloPark app, the parking fines are more expensive than the parking pass for a year, and lemme tell you, the parking monitor people are ruthless. For a room the size of most household pantries that has the same building quality of a house of cards; the rent is WAYYY too high. For $231 a week to live in a pantry that falls apart, you would be better off forking out double the price for a 4-bedroom townhouse in the area. I will say though, the location is amazing for a student but If you aren't receiving financial support from your parents, like me, it is extremely unfair that you are expected to pay the annual wage of a full-time, just above minimum- wage job ($34,000) just to live in a pantry and fight for parking."
"Deakin is very greedy and only care and making money for shareholders, not about the students. I moved into a studio there and on move in day, the shower leaked all over the floor, the TV wouldn't turn on, there was no bin and there was hair in the cupboards that I had to clean out myself. I called the maintenance guy when I noticed these issues and he got angry and said "get everything else done today because I'm not coming back again". Very mean. I was also fined $111 multiple times for forgetting to book the parking app to park on campus, which costs roughly $6/day or $30-35/week. I was also charged a $75 cleaning for when I moved out, even though I spent an hour vacuuming, spraying surfaces and bleaching the toilet and shower. Completely uncalled for. They also said they will put an encumbrance on my account until I pay the fee, so I cannot continue to study without paying their exorbitant fee. Also, the AC didn't work in the common areas even though there was a button on the wall—as it was centrally controlled. So it got up to 31 degrees inside on the hotter days and there was nothing you could do about it if you wanted to study or just hang out and play table tennis. Half of the dryers don't work as well. They will spin the clothes but the heating often doesn't work. Deakin is very slow to fix this if they do at all. You just can't win with Deakin res and I wouldn't recommend living there if you have other options."
"They say it's student friendly, but it is not. The rent is way to high. Even on the day I was supposed to leave they charged 75 dollars just to clean the room. Better get a room in Barkley Hall a little further up the road. Much better facilities and food for the same price."
"The res team is very nice, im having a good time living on campus for studies"
"Stayed at my friend's Deakin residential unit. It is sufficient in size, clean, has a refrigerator, sink, bathroom, bed, chair, cupboards, microwave and desk. It is very nice. 4/5 stars."
