About Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary
Welcome to Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary, located at 593 Briggs Road in Brighton, Australia. As an establishment, park, point of interest, tourist attraction, and zoo, we offer a unique experience for visitors from all over the world.
Our daily tours, held at 10am, 11:30am, 1:30pm, and 3:30pm, provide an opportunity to get up close and personal with Australia's incredible wildlife. From animals that have become extinct in other parts of the country to those we are actively working to protect, you'll have a chance to witness the beauty and fragility of these creatures.
Bonorong Wildlife Rescue is a Tasmania-wide, 24/7 wildlife rescue service. If you find yourself in need of advice or assistance, our dedicated team is always ready to help. We have over 1,000 volunteers who respond to call-outs for injured and orphaned wildlife, ensuring their survival and relieving pain and stress.
Our sanctuary is not only a place to experience wildlife, but also a social enterprise with a big heart. The skills and funds generated through our operations allow us to proactively address environmental and community issues in our surrounding areas.
When you walk through our old wooden gate, you become part of something special. Everything we do, we do with your help. Whether you're a local or a visitor from afar, we welcome you to join us on this journey.
We also offer free training for community members interested in wildlife rescue and transport. Even if you're unsure about joining our rescue service, the skills you gain can be used in the event of a wildlife emergency.
We want to emphasize that children are welcome at Bonorong, but please be aware that we cover some sensitive topics, including euthanasia. However, young children can be great helpers in many situations, so don't be deterred from visiting.
The name 'BONORONG' is derived from an Aboriginal word meaning 'native companion'. We acknowledge the Mumirimina people as the original owners of the land on which our sanctuary stands. We pay respects to their memory and recognize the Palawa people as the traditional owners of the land today.
At Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary, you'll have the opportunity to go behind the scenes and have close encounters with Tasmania's unique wildlife. From Tassie devils to blue-tongued lizards, koalas to bettongs, and everything in between, you'll discover the incredible diversity of Tasmania's fauna.
If you're a bird enthusiast, Tasmania is home to 383 species of birds, including 13 native species of birds of prey. From the majestic Wedge-tailed Eagle to the mysterious Tasmanian masked owl and the delightful Southern Boobook, you'll be captivated by the raptors that call Tasmania home.
And if you've always wanted to spot a platypus, Tasmania is the perfect place. These elusive creatures are relatively easy to find in Tasmania's creeks and rivers, as long as you're patient. We can provide you with a list of the 10 best places to see a platypus in Tasmania.
Don't forget to download the IFAW Wildlife Rescue APP via the links provided on our socials panel. With this app, you can connect directly to Bonorong Wildlife Rescue and log sightings of animals, among other features.
We can't wait to meet you and share the wonders of Australia's wildlife at Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary.

Reviews of Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary
"The sanctuary is amazing and surely is worth a visit. We mainly visited the sanctuary to see the Tasmanian devils but we were surprised by way more than just Tasmanian devils. The sanctuary tickets are quite pricey, but that’s understood as the ticket fees are flowing into the sanctuary itself. With the Tasmanian devils and the different encounters available including the kangaroo feeding area, it makes the place worth the visit. And not to forget mentioning the amazing 110 year old cockatoo Peter, hope to see you again safe and sound in perfect health !!"
"Highlight of our Aussie trip! Absolutely loved this place and the interaction we had with the animals (we did the night tour and got to feed kangaroos, tasmanian devils, wombats, birds among many others). It was heartwarming to see the rescue animals treated so well and hearing each of their stories made it extra special. Our guide, Monica, was fantastic and so passionate about what she does. Thank you for this unforgettable experience!"
"We loved Bonorong Sanctuary. Its a small sanctuary doing amazing work with an excellent selection of animals in their care for visitors to view. We took the private feeding tour which was worth the investment. Feeding and cuddling stella the 11 month old wombat, and feeding the tassie devils were highlights. Highly recommend visiting, especially if you have children who love animals."
"Absolutely wonderful place. I spent my birthday here and couldn't have wished for a better place. The staff is very kind and knowledgeable. Kangaroos are super friendly (and hungry!) so feel free to feed them with the food provided. I recommend booking one (or more) of the closer experiences - totally worth it."
"We went to do an animal encounter and ended up staying and doing a night tour - honestly best decision we made! Was such an insightful tour and Robyn was an amazing guide. We learnt so much about all the animals, the conservation efforts Bonorong has in place and also got up close with them and gave them their dinner. We learnt all the animals names, their stories, fun facts about each of them and really entered their world! It was such a fun time and an experience I will never forget. Robyn is also so lovely, great to chat with, and was such an insightful guide. We visited from mainland but can’t wait to come back."
