St Mary's College, Hobart
About the Business
Welcome to St Mary's College, Hobart, located at 164 Harrington Street. Our establishment is not just a school, but a point of interest where children's innate love of learning is nurtured from their very first visit to our College until their final day in Year 12.
At St Mary's College, we believe in championing for change and promoting sustainability. Our Footprint Team and Green Team are leading the way in creating a more environmentally conscious community. We invite all families and members of the community to join us in this endeavor.
If you have children in Kinder to Year 5, we invite you to come and take a tour of our College. During your visit, you will have the opportunity to speak with our Principal, staff, and students, and get a glimpse of what a typical day at St Mary's College looks like.
Our students are not just academic achievers, but also active participants in school activities. You will often find them leading cheers and chants from the grandstands during sporting events, encouraging participation in House activities, and promoting camaraderie and good sportsmanship.
We also believe in providing our students with opportunities beyond the classroom. Recently, 11 students in Years 11 and 12 had the chance to experience university life at the University of Tasmania's Medical Science Precinct. This taster day gave them a glimpse into what it's like to study as an undergraduate student.
Stay updated with the latest news and stories from our College by reading our biannual magazine, the Alma Mater. It is available to read online, featuring stories about our students, achievements, and upcoming events.
At St Mary's College, we are proud to be a part of Catholic Education Tasmania. We strongly believe that children and young people have the right to be respected, nurtured, and cared for.
We also acknowledge the traditional owners of the land on which our College is located, the muwinina people of the South East Nation. We deeply respect the palawa people, the Tasmanian Aboriginal Community, and all Elders past and present. We are committed to learning alongside our students and community in this place, nipaluna, and support the continued sharing of knowledge and culture.
Join us at St Mary's College, Hobart, where we strive to create a nurturing and inclusive environment for all our students.

"It gets hated on a lot and really doesn't deserve it - although some girls can be problematic the teachers work hard and most of them care a lot about the students and how they learn. Students with learning difficulties can get customised learning plans to assist them. Truthfully their concerns about the uniform only come up if you blatently avoid wearing the uniform - if you're a productive member of the school and dont wear non-school items of clothing or excessive jewelery/makeup nothing happens. There can be some difficulties dealing with issues with staff, and the leadership system however these issues themselves are rare. All in all I really reccomend SMC - its a great place to make friends and it's easy to find the people that'll make your life a lot better (and form life-long friendships)"
"it was an okay school but i had a couple teachers who “refused” to teach me and the girls there come past and pick on you for any reason they can i wouldn’t send my kids here"
"not a good school, i went here and i was singled out, i have been diagnosed with adhd and they didn't want to help my learning issues they just told me i was a naughty student. teachers have no patience for kids with learning capabilities. all girls here are just rude and nasty and pick on anyone they see. its 2021 not 1950, they care more about uniform then your learing. they picked on all my friends and made it hard to go to school. i wouldn't send your girls here."
"St Mary's is a great school to go to, everyone is really nice, it is really easy to make friends! I really recommend it"
"Why you SHOULDNT go here 1. They make you wear your blazers at 28 degrees and my friends tried taking there blazer of then they said oh You HAVE to wear it one block away from the school LIKE?!? Do you Only care about your reputation not your students!?! 2. Horibble playgrounds 3.half the students the push u for no reason"
