Welcome to Aspect South Coast School, a leading institution dedicated to supporting children on the autism spectrum and their families. Located in Corrimal, Wilford Street, our school has been providing specialized autism education programs and services for over 32 years in the Wollongong, Shellharbour, Kiama, and Shoalhaven areas.

At Aspect South Coast School, we currently cater to approximately 113 students who benefit from the expertise and dedication of our highly knowledgeable staff. Our main site in Corrimal houses our administration office and five lower primary classes. Additionally, we operate satellite classes in collaboration with various educational institutions, including the NSW Department of Education Schools, NSW Catholic Education Schools, and an Independent school.

We take pride in our specialized education program, which utilizes the Aspect Comprehensive Approach (ACA) to provide individualized programs that understand, engage, and celebrate the strengths, interests, and aspirations of individuals on the autism spectrum. Our team of teaching and non-teaching staff continuously enhance their knowledge and practice through ongoing professional learning and collaboration.

Aspect South Coast School is also a Language Acquisition through Motor Planning (LAMP) model classroom school. We have approximately 50 students who benefit from the use of LAMP devices to enhance their communicative interactions. Our school is supported by a team of Aspect LAMP specialists.

Collaboration with families is at the heart of our approach. We work closely with parents and guardians to promote the potential in each of our students. We offer various support sessions, including "Coffee Mornings," Grandparents coffee mornings, and Dad's Nights, to ensure families feel involved and supported.

In addition, our active Parents and Friends (P&F) Association organizes events and fundraising opportunities throughout the year, bringing the school community together.

Aspect South Coast School is registered and accredited by the New South Wales Education Standards Authority (NESA). Our class programs align with the NSW curriculum, with accommodations and adjustments made to meet individual needs and ensure positive learning opportunities. We also incorporate the strengths and interests of our students into their learning experiences, fostering a personalized approach.

Technology plays a significant role in our classrooms, complementing the learning process and catering to the specific needs of our students.

Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is an integral part of our school program, ensuring a proactive and holistic approach to behavior management. We understand that challenging behavior communicates important information about the needs and wants of individuals, and we use evidence-informed practices and data-based decision making to support them.

Exciting developments are underway at our South Coast school, as we undergo renovations to enhance our facilities. The refurbishment includes the addition of two new classrooms, a library, a sensory room, and a new school hall for indoor recreation activities. All classrooms are being redesigned with autism-specific improvements to support sensory requirements. We are also creating newly landscaped outdoor play areas with new equipment.

Once complete, our school will have a total of seven classrooms, accommodating approximately 42 students from kindergarten to Year 6. Furthermore, we are thrilled to announce our partnership with the University of Wollongong in 2023, which will provide us with additional classrooms at their campus.

The Aspect Comprehensive Approach ensures that we support all areas of a child's development. Through collaboration with families and the use of individual plans (IP), we create positive learning environments that cater to each child's unique learning style, techniques, and supports, while focusing on their strengths and interests.
