Welcome to Short Street Occasional Child Care Centre, located in the heart of Corrimal, Australia. Our establishment is a point of interest and a school, offering education and care to a diverse community. Situated just 10 minutes north of the Wollongong CBD, our center is conveniently located within the community precinct, surrounded by ample free parking and close to several community facilities, including the Corrimal District Library and Community Centre.

At Short Street, we provide a safe and nurturing environment where children are given the opportunity to actively participate in decision making, skill building, play, and experimentation. Our educators use "Circle of Security" practices to ensure that children feel safe, supported, and protected, while also adhering to the principles of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. We believe that every child has the right to an education that respects their family, cultural, and other identities and languages, and lays a foundation for their future.

The development of genuine, caring, sharing, and understanding relationships forms the basis of all learning and future growth at our center. Our highly trained educators come from diverse cultural backgrounds and are committed to creating inclusive, trusted, and nurturing relationships that cater to individual needs. We believe in empowering children to be co-facilitators of their own learning.

We encourage families to actively participate in the life of our center by attending various events and visiting whenever they wish. Families can delight in a range of activities, including gardening, sports, music and movement, story reading, and singing songs in different languages. Our large, leafy, green outdoor garden and play area provides the perfect setting for these activities. We focus on lessening our carbon footprint and leading to a sustainable future through gardening projects and caring for native bees and blue tongue lizards. Families can also enjoy sitting and talking with educators while watching the children play.

Indoors, we have two learning rooms that are filled with natural light, providing a home-like environment for children to grow and learn. Our early learning room is specifically designed for children aged birth to 3 years, with high ceilings and two cot rooms for babies to rest and sleep peacefully. Our preschool room, catering to children aged 3 to 5 years, offers a fun and educational environment that opens onto our large outdoor area, allowing children to freely move between the two spaces.

We believe in extending our learning environment beyond the center walls. We take children on walking excursions to the Corrimal Library for the '100 Stories Before School' program, fostering a love for reading and literacy. Additionally, our children visit elderly community members and nearby primary schools, developing a sense of caring for others and an awareness of community and belonging.

As a center, we are committed to ongoing self-assessment against the National Quality Standards to drive continuous improvement and enhance the developmental and educational outcomes for young children. We are currently awaiting Assessment and Rating against these standards.
